Affordable places in London, Paris and Amsterdan?
« Thread Started on Jul 11, 2009, 2:06pm »

any suggestions for cheap/affordable yet well located accommodations for London, Paris and Amsterdam for early August?

I am looking into single rooms (which hostels provide them?).. bed and breakfasts, guesthouses or pensiones.. I don't mind a shared bathroom though..

I am also going to Berlim, Prague, Krakow, Budapeste, Vienna, Venice, Firenze, Rome, Sorrento, Greek Islands, Madrid, Barcelona, Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon.. in case someone have suggestions..
thanks!!

For London, I already mentioned:
http://www.lsevacations.co.uk
http://www.travelstay.com

I'm not sure if I mentioned this already, but here are the sites I use:
http://www.hotelscombined.com
http://www.hrs.de
http://www.accorhotels.com
http://www.hostelbookers.com
http://www.hostelworld.com
(The last two do more than hostels.)

It is also worth checking www.hihostels.com because single rooms at some hostels (not all) can be a very good deal. My friend managed a trip where she stayed in a bunch of hostels during the off-season in smaller Spanish towns and cities and although she only paid for a dorm bed, every time they put her in a single room (because there were hordes of kids in the other dorms). I don't know if you can count on that, though!

Note I didn't mention any specific places, because in my experience the best deal totally depends on when you are booking, what hotels are offering special deals, when you are traveling, etc. That said, Lonely Planet and Let's Go have some pretty good recommendations, although I'd advise cross-checking their recommendations on the above sites and also on TripAdvisor.

I will mention one specific place, though - Hotel Julia in Rome. Their single economical rooms are a good deal much of the time, although I'm not sure about lack of air conditioning in Rome in August (if that's when you're there).

Also convents in Venice, Florence, and Rome can be a great deal. The main drawback is the curfew. Here's one site, although you can Google for more.

I just found this one for Madrid:
http://www.madridrooms.co.uk/

I cannot vouch for it, though.

Hey I have a bunch of site suggestions for cheap accommodation in europe. If you are really looking for something simple and cheap, look at this site for hotels:

http://www.eurocheapo.com/

I would also recommend renting a little apartment if you will be staying for a longer time. If you look well, you can find good deals and this can be cheaper than staying in a hotel! I like this site:

http://www.casamundo.co.uk/

They also list holiday houses and other types of accommodation, but their apartment selection is usually pretty big, and you can find some good prices. Or I recently found this site which I like too:
