That's pretty much what I found in Europe - some places seemed to "lean" towards Visa, while others featured MasterCard.when i was planning my trip in 2004, i was thinking about spending time in Slovenia. i read someplace that Visa was pretty much out in the whole country. MasterCard was the way to go there. i also read that other places were vice-versa. rather than take chances, i took both cards on my trip. - d

David,
That's my policy too. Even though I just use them for "emergencies" or paying for Hotels, I like to have both cards along.

I think it's always a good idea to have two credit cards on a trip. Sometimes one will quit working for some unknown reason. Then you have the other as a backup. Or you can keep one locked up, and take one with you during the day, etc. I have an American Express also that I would only use for emergencies, but it's nice to have.

No, it's not widely accepted, but what I have heard is that you can go into an AMEX office, and get a cash advance. I've never done this, but at least I'm prepared, I hope.
