Hi Guys.
The time is almost near for my big trip. I'm sure you're all sick of answering questions about how much money to bring, but please indulge me by answering mine too ;D
I just need to know how much to bring solely to cover day to day expenses. I already have accommodation, flights etc covered, so i just need to know how much to budget for food, sights etc.
I'm staying for 6 weeks and im traveling to many places, so just an average cost would be great. I know places like London and Paris are more expensive, but I assume places like Prague and Berlin may be cheaper (correct me if im wrong.)
I'm from Australia, so to make things less confusing, just quote the budget in Euro, Ill do the converting ;D
Cheers guys n gals.

Monty,
I'm certainly not "sick of answering questions" and would be happy to answer yours.
The usual "benchmark figure" is to allow €75-100 per day for accommodations, food, sightseeing, admission charges and local transportation. This doesn't include air fares or rail pass costs, but the amount spent for rail reservations would be included in this.
Of course, the actual amount is going to depend on what type of accommodations you choose (Hostels?), whether you have lots of restaurant meals or just "picnic" with a sandwich most of the time and what types of Museums or other attractions you want to visit. Of course, if you're going to be doing a lot of "clubbing" and buying drinks, that can become costly very quickly. Local transportation is not usually that expensive, often just €1 or so for each trip on the Metro.
Which type of accommodations you choose will be very important. I was recently in Paris and the "budget" Hotel I was staying at in the Rue Cler area was €132 per night for a single room!
Prague and Berlin won't necessarily be much cheaper as they're both quite popular at the moment with lots of tourists. I've heard a few stories about excessively high prices especially in Prague. You might post a PM to Ray for the most up to date information.
Happy travels!

Thanks for the fast reply.
We've already booked accommodation, so I've got money put aside for that already. As far as food, drinks and maybe sights go, do you think 50 Euro per day is sufficient? Obviously some sights will be costly, but on average I was hoping 50 Euro per day would be enough.

monty1104,
Is that €50 per day for two people??? I suppose that would be possible if you average it out over the duration of your trip. Some days would be more expensive and some less expensive.
It's difficult for me to provide a precise answer as I travel solo these days so my travel style is a bit different.
Hopefully some of the others will have a few comments as well.
Cheers!

I was talking €50 per day for one person. I suppose if you think 2 people can last on €50 though, I guess 1 person should be able to get by.
In the end, in just going to save as much as I possibly can. I've currently got €2500 saved up to cover me for food, drinks, miscellaneous tours and spending money. Im traveling for 45 days, so at €50 per day, that means I will need €2250. It doesnt mean I'm going to stop saving, but it would be nice to know if I've already got enough, or if I need to keep saving, how much more I will need.
