My wife and I are looking to plan a first time trip to Europe, either in 2011 or 2012. We are both late 40's and in reasonably good shape. We also will be saving quite a bit in advance and definitely want to make this trip count. Our high level plan is to spend appx. 3 weeks with the following itinerary:
US to Berlin
Berlin to Prague
Prague to Budapest
Budapest to Belgrade
Belgrade to Sarajevo
Sarajevo to Zagreb
Zagreb to Ljubljana
Ljubljana to Salzburg
Salzburg to Munich
Munich to Berlin
Berlin to US
This is probably an overly ambitious trip and maybe not realistic but was hoping for suggestions. Also, we will be flying to Berlin and then utilizing rail passes for the entire trip, backpacking and would like to utilize hostels (privates) for the trip as well.
