I haven't gotten the book, but I do follow the author's blog, and he has many good points.

Some points to note - $50/day is a worldwide average, and wouldn't work for Western Europe generally. He also includes flights and insurance in this figure.
What I like about what he does is that he focuses on how to get frequent flyer miles and hotel points to help out your budget. Admittedly, some of this might not be so possible for young travelers, as many of these require credit cards with a preset income, but it might be possible for many reading here.
