Hihi, just got home from Munich today. There is also a single person Bayern ticket, which is priced at $19 Euros, I believe. This entitles you to travel throughout Bavaria, including on PT in and around Munich, to Neunschwanstein as well. Also DeutscheBahn is having some special fare promotions with train fares for 29Euros at the moment (not sure how long the promotion is on). I got my Ljubljana to Munich ticket for that price, so it's quite worth it.

Thanks for your help! Feeling the jitters as I identified a few loophopes which I underestimated in my packing: e.g. money to bring and the capacity of my backpack. So once these are settled, should be up and running.

Hi Eagle Thanks for that. Do you take any other measures to make the dSLR more inconspicuous? I have heard of people taping the 'canon' sign on their neckslings so that it appears like a normal camera...I guess I am concerned, not knowing what to expect, so wanted to be a bit more prepared.

Greetings!
I just got myself a dslr and am headed to europe next month. Was torn between bringing the p&s or the dslr, due to safety concerns. But noting i'll be visiting some really pretty places i am very very tempted to bring the dslr.
So I was wondering if there are any safety tips for carrying a dslr while doing a solo-backpacking, e.g. always put the camera in a backpack instead of sling bag, etc. Hope this can mitigate the risks of bringing the camera along...
Cheers!

Does anyone know if it were ok to book a train travelling from Zagreb to Ljubljana, as well as from Ljubljana to Munich, while in the respective cities? (Actually it seems more like of having no choice as the websites don't seem to have the costs of the rides.)
Also, should I book this as two separate train rides or a single trip, with a stopover for a few days at Ljublana?
Thanks for your help!

Updated....managed to confirm a few details and booked a couple of tickets. Here's the finalised itinerary: Apr 10 - Munich Apr 11-18 - Montenegro Apr 19 - Montenegro to Dubrovnik Apr 20 - Dubrovnik Apr 21 - Dubrovnik Apr 22 - Dubrovnik Apr 23 - Dubrovnik to Zagreb Apr 24 - Zagreb Apr 25 - Zagreb Apr 26 - Zagreb to Ljubljana Apr 27 - Ljubljana Apr 28 - Ljubljana Apr 29 - Ljubljana to Munich Apr 30 - Munich May 1 - Munich May 2 - Munich, then night flight back to Singapore Confirmed are my hostels for the first night in Munich and the 3 nights in Zagreb, as well as the flight from Dubrovnik to Zagreb. Thanks everyone for your help so far in this forums! Am feeling nervous about the first time, yet also quite excited.

Hi herrbert
Yes, I've planned for daytrips to Bled/Bovec (1day) and the Coast (1day), with 1+ days in Ljubljana proper. This will depend on the times for the Zagreb - Ljubljana + Ljubljana - Munich trains.
Hmm, I think I can try to fit one extra day for Zagreb with the schedules.

Now that my trip is confirmed, I've migrated from the pre-travel planning board to the itinerary boards. ;D So here's the tentative plan (*modified slightly): Apr 10 - Munich Apr 11-19 - Montenegro From this point it gets a bit tricky. I'm not sure whether I'll leave Montenegro on 19 or 20 Apr, pending the group planning, so I'll settle for the worse case option. Also, I thought I could squeeze in both Split and Munich for the remaining 13 days, so this change means I have to select one or the other...so here it goes: Option A - SplitApr 20 - Montenegro to Dubrovnik Apr 21 - Dubrovnik Apr 22 - Dubrovnik Apr 23 - Dubrovnik to Split Apr 24 - Split Apr 25 - Split to Zagreb Apr 26 - Zagreb Apr 27 - Zagreb to Ljubljana Apr 28 - Ljubljana Apr 29 - Ljubljana Apr 30 - Ljubljana May 1 - Ljubljana to Munich May 2 - Munich, then night flight back to Singapore Option B - MunichApr 20 - Montenegro to Dubrovnik Apr 21 - Dubrovnik Apr 22 - Dubrovnik Apr 23 - Dubrovnik to Zagreb Apr 24 - Zagreb Apr 25 - Zagreb to Ljubljana Apr 26 - Ljubljana Apr 27 - Ljubljana Apr 28 - Ljubljana Apr 29 - Ljubljana to Munich Apr 30 - Munich May 1 - Munich May 2 - Munich, then night flight back to Singapore I'm inclined towards Option 2. If I leave Montenegro on Apr 19, I can spend more time at Dubrovnik to head off to Mostar, Korcula, etc. Also I'd probably come back to Croatia / Germany (especially if I do take up postgrad in Europe) in future. Thanks for your help!

Some updates.
Something cropped up and now the trip's been reduced to two weeks (I'd be in Montenegro for a week before that) and so looks like I'll start from Dubrovnik. So new itinerary is:
Either Dubrovnik 5nights, with day trips to Split or Dubrovnik 3nights, Split 2nights Zagreb, either 2 or 3 nights Ljubljana, 3 nights (Bled is now daytrip) Munich 2 nights then headed back home (I'll have 3 days in Munich over the Easter weekend before heading down to Montenegro).
Any suggestions on whether this change is workable? Should I do Split as a daytrip? Or should I head to Bosnia instead?
Cheers!

Thank you all for your help. I've finetuned the draft itinerary by rearranging (again) the route, took out the Montenegro daytrip requirement and added one night in Salzburg (but it's optional still, not sure if can accomplish much in one day). So here it is: - Arrive Munich 18 Apr, overnight train to Zagreb (arrives at 8am). Then fly to Split
- Split (3 nights), followed by Dubrovnik (4 nights), with day trips to Mostar and Korcula.
- Ljubljana + Zagreb (2/3 or 3/2 nights, haven't decided)
- Bled (2 nights)
- Extra night either at Salzburg, or extend say at Zagreb.
- Munich (4nights). Leave Munich on 8 May.
Any advice on the itinerary, especially the first two days where there's a lot of travelling involved? And, Sarajevo sounds excellent!!! Any advice on how to fit it in? Thanks for your help!

Is the best way from Mostar to Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik to Split via bus? I read that there is no train station in Dubrovnik, is this true? I also need to get from Bled to Salzburg. Is "Lesce-Bled" the train station in Bled, Slovenia? I am pretty sure it is, but just want to confirm. Hihi, I'm planning a trip to Munich and the Balkans in Apr/May, which is quite similar in route to the Balken leg in your itinerary. I've asked others who travelled in the area before and they agreed that pretty much the fastest way to get from Dubrovnik to Split without driving is by bus (which was what they also did on the Amazing Race). Lonely Planet also said that Lesce-Bled is the right train station to head to Salzburg, but it's a few km to the east of the lake, so you'll need a cab to get from Bled to the train station. Was thinking of whether I'll have time to stop by Salzburg as well, but it looks like my itinerary's packed.

Sorry, one other question. Do you have any good itinerary on how to spend the couple of days in Munich?
