Hi, I'm planning a trip to Europe in the summer of 2006 with a friend. I will be 18 at the time. I live in Boston, but I'm a citizen of Belarus (little country next to Russia). I have a greencard in U.S., but my Belorusian passport will be expired by that time.
1)Is it possible to get the visa and travel just with a greencard???
2)Do they check the expiration date a lot?
3) Random question - I'm getting a visa for the Schengen agreement, but I want to go to Ireland and it is not included as far as I know. Do I need to pay extra for the visa?
ANY HELP! will be so highly appreciated. I've been driving myself crazy w/ research.
Thank YOU

I'd get your passport straightened out. You will be asked for it for sure. An expired passport is just asking for trouble!

My daughter in law is Colombian and I can tell you for sure that you can not travel on a greencard! That applies only to your residency in the US. You need to contact the Belarus embassy here and find out from them how to renew your passport. Even if you were not planning to travel....frankly I am surprised that no one in the US has hassled you about this. If nothing else, I can promise once you leave here you will not be allowed back into the US with an expired passport even if you do have a greencard. Gal...you need to take care of this!!
And they totally check expiration dates...with a vengance!

Have you checked their website yet? You may be able to do this by mail and you still have plenty of time. I would assume they have at least a consulate in NYC...nearly every country does. If you are in Boston, even if you have to show up in person, that's not too awfully bad. Good luck! And post back....I'll be curious about this.

Within Europe you'll be travelling as a Belarus citizen, so you'll need to sort your passport out (otherwise you'll be in a lot of trouble, especially in the UK). A US green card means nothing here btw. You'll need a current passport for a Schengen visa anyway. Check out www.eurovisa.info/ for more information about Schengen. As for Ireland, I've checked and you'll need a visa. The current fee is €60, so around US$ 80. Check out tinyurl.com/5tn4h for more information. They seem pretty strict as well when it comes to the application - I'd look at getting that sorted asap. N.B. You'll need a visa for other non Schengen countries as well, including the UK.

Thank you for the websites. Very useful for the Ireland visa. Me and my friend decided not to go to England, so I'm still considering Ireland, but the cost is not as high as I thought. As for my passport, if you were wondering, my lovely country requires me to be there in person. So I will be visiting it sometime during next winter for my passport, or bribe someone (it's a russian country As for the Schengen visa thank you for that, now I get how that works, ...how much does the Schengen visa cost??
