Guido, if you do decide to go to Rome, try the 'enjoy Rome' tours. There are three tours, and I liked the 'ancient Rome tour' very much. The main language is English, the tour guides usually are american students. It's a lot of fun, not at all like the city tours I was used to.

Cat - Thanks for the tour suggestion. Do you have any other info on these tours like time, place, cost, etc. They sound very interesting.

Absolutely do the 'Enjoy Rome' tours! And I agree, the Ancient Rome is excellent. But I also greatly enjoyed the Vatican one....although found it was not nearly long enough and went back on my own the next day to spend more time. However, if on a time budget this will give you all the highlights in a compact time frame. Kims site has all the info.....they are a short walk from the train station with many 1 star hotels and hostels in the area. The area south of the station is opne to best avoid, but just north or west is fine, low cost and safe as anywhere. Avoid the immediate station area after dark though if you can. Not the best part of Rome! ging
