But what do you guys sleep in while travelling? I haven't decided what to take, but I'm not packing one of my nighties. ;D

Well, I had a beautiful crab motif p-j!
I had long sleeves and pants so it wasn't sexy at all, but it was comfy and good enough to walk around the room in!

well.....as a matter of fact I do. ;D But I took a pair of jammies with me to wear until the actual 'get under the covers' moment. Plus, I never stayed in a hostel, I always had my own room.

In hostels the bedding is generally pretty skimpy, so think warm if you aren't traveling at the height of summer.

I was thinking about this one too, then just decided on a t-shirt and a pair of light shorts (that can also be worn during the day, if need be). Better than sleeping without a shirt, all the women in the place would be like and get no sleep! whoooo yeah I need some more coffee.... Doug

Yes, naked. Boxers if there seems a desperate need to do so I agree that the bedding is often skimpy, but many hostel dorms are heated throughout winter, and there are sometimes spare blankets in a cupboard if you need one.

I'm a PJ pants and T-shirt kind of girl for dorms. I'm still laughing at Doug's answer with the Kim

don't think i've EVER seen anyone sleep naked at a hostel. but, i never did a scientific analysis. so, no empirical evidence. ;D
i sleep in hostels as i do at home: scrubs & a t-shirt.

I would actually recommend getting one of those sarong-thingies from the beach some place. That way you can sleep in just a T-shirt, or nothing at all if that is more confortable, and just put that thing on if you need to get up, or before you go to bed. I guess it works the same with a p-j but those things get put on inside-out in the middle of night, take more space in your backpack and might just be a bit warm if travelling in the summer. A sarong (although they might not look so nice, but I like mine anyway) actually works well to use as a blanket in the summer and has lots of other great uses. /Susanne

I've read a few accounts lately of people who have stayed in hotels where the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night (perhaps because a drunk guest pulled it or whatever). Of course everyone has to evacuate the hotel then. It doesn't take much imagination to think of what could happen if you are skimpily attired . I haven't actually heard of this happening at a hostel, but it could.

Remember that horrendous fire in the hostel in Australia a year ago or so? I got evacuated from my 'very nice' hotel in Edinburgh 2 years ago on Christmas morning! Luckily I was dressed but had not gone down to b'fast yet. So had time to grab my coat, etc before leaving. There were MANY folks standing outside minus coats who had already been dining and many more in pj's. I gave my gloves and coat to a quite elderly lady who was about to shiver out of her skin!

This a rather funny question and yes, indeed, very personal. And the answers are quite candid ;D. Already, I feel comfortable with the group. Can't sleep without my favorite "worn-out" boxer shorts and sleeveless cotton sandos. Nothing beats the familiar, very comfortable feel of something I have slept in for some time. It cures the " unfamiliar place/room" syndrome. Ssssshhh. Until now, only my wife knows about this.
