A bit of an 'out there' idea but I was wondering if anyone here has ever brought any food with them on their trip? Any issues with customs? I mean light and small things like Mr. Noodle or a bag (or two) of cookies. Or is this simply just not practical (or worse, get me in trouble )? 15 more sleeps! ;D Char.

i think it's fresh food that can be an issue. the worry is that parasites can get into the country. cute story: about 10 years ago, a German law professor i know because he was working at a Dallas law school, flew to Frankfurt with a cooler full of dry ice and good Texas steaks. when he was in german customs there, the civil servant asked what was in the cooler. "Texas steaks," he said. the young customs officer got wide eyed and said, "you know it's forbidden!" the professor says "yes, i know." the young civil servant glances to around, waves him through and said "go on." ;D - d

Packaged (and cooked) stuff like that isn't usually a problem (as long as they contain no actual meat - US and Canadian meat and dairy products are banned). The EU is pretty strict on bringing in foreign fauna and flora though, so I'd avoid the issue altogether, unless you want a nice wait in customs when they analyse everything. A good site is importdetails.defra.gov.uk/Default.aspx?Location=None&Module=IDDSearch - the rules are pretty consistent around the EU. That said, you can get almost everything over here (other than certain things like Mr Pibb, DoubleStuf oreos etc - these are available from import shops though), so I'd be inclined to leave food. It's only extra stuff to carry.

"She just smiled and gave me a Vegemite Sandwich, I come from the Land Down Under!!!"
Hehe! Yes it was one of their hits, very popular at Aussie parties to sing along to! ;D

You can buy vegemite over here. I know that most major UK supermarkets stock it (Tesco, Sainsbury's etc). That said, it's pretty inert, so I can't see any problems with bringing it (most problems occur with meat/fish products and fruit/vegetables). It's pretty similar to Marmite from what I remember though.
And David, the [Spunge] version of that song is well worth checking out.

like everyone said, you should be fine with non-perishable pre-cooked and packaged foods. we took a bunch of Clif bars with us and didnt have a problem.
( I get really cranky and sick if I dont eat so we thought it prudent to have something on hand, and it worked!)

Ok, this will sound really gross, but it is a salty, tangy Vegetable and Yeast extract paste (dark brown) that you put on toast and you can use it as a stock in soups.
A lot of non-Australians hate it (like my poor mum who thought it was chocolate when she first moved from Ireland - lol).
Most Aussie kids grow up on it! ;D ;D
