They don't weigh much I'll wager...but why do you need 12 pairs of socks and 10 undies? Easy to wash out at night, quick to dry.....3 or 4 of each is enough if you wash every few days. 6 tees and 3 sweaters.....you could easily make that 4 and 2... Why two guidebooks? Can't you take one and your travel partner the other? Be careful on toilletries...they can make for big weight. Use smaller bottles to refill, buy as you go and split the big bottles among your partners. I do understand how hard it is....my first trip I could barely stand upright I had so much in my pack....probably half of which I never used and quickly tossed or shipped home. It does get so boring wearing the same darn things all the time....but oh they do feel so much better on your back! But it's not like at home with the fashion-istas..you'll likely never see the same person twice so no one will know you are wearing the same things over and over. As David says...pack light, pack light, pack light! We all have to learn this the hard way usually....honestly just trying to help you avoid a hard lesson. ging I'll try to find the pic my best friend took of me and my pack the night before I left for 4 months....HA! Looked like I was playing the elephant walk game as I literally could not stand upright it was so heavy. And I left with it that way! Stupid woman! Had dumped at least half of it before the first week was over. Once you get on the road you will appreciate my maxim...'Do I really need it badly enough to carry it on my back for weeks on end?" Knowing that nearly anything I could buy here I can likewise buy there should I suddenly want/need it, the answer is no...so I toss it aside. ;D

toilletteries are heavy... i'm a big fan of lush solid shampoo and conditioner... very light and obviously no leaks!

I do understand how hard it is....my first trip I could barely stand upright I had so much in my pack this made me laugh out loud. over the summer we went to europe and my friend ended up carrying ALL of my toiletries around. I swear those things took 3/4 of my bag and they were HEAVY.
