Yes, it is often way cheaper to fly on an early flight. Luton is a slightly harder airport to get to, particularly early in the morning. If you choose that, you may want to spend the night at the airport. These two factors lower demand, and thus the price, for the early morning Luton flights.
You can look to see when EasyBus has shuttles to Luton, and when the earliest trains to Luton from Kings Cross/St. Pancras are. Once you arrive at Luton train station, there's a free shuttle to the airport, but you'll have to check the earliest time for that too.

FYI:
Easyjet has a flight on the afternoon of the 7th of March (dep. 17.00) for 26.98 Pounds, leaving from Gatwick. There are also other slightly more expensive flights.

I've been looking into it and I think I will be best to sleep at the airport or try to find a hostel near by.
Not much of a big update on things except I have my pack! It's an Asolo. perfect, has a detachable day pack and it's all packed up and just waiting for departure! I posted in the Itinerary section my trip up to Germany if anyone is interested! Thanks for all the help guys!

I don't think there is a hostel in Luton. But there are several near Kings Cross.

If you're planning to sleep at an airport, have a back-up plan in case they kick you out. A good website is: www.sleepinginairports.comAlso, I've read through Rick Steves's England... didn't like it. If you're having a hard time finding guidebooks, I recommend buying them from: www.bookcloseouts.comYes, they're 2007 editions but basically the same as 2008 editions. You just need to double-check prices and stuff like that but it's still useful. And only less than 5 bucks each.

Thanks for the input everyone! I went and picked up four Guidebooks. There was a serious lack of selection at all 3 stores I went to so I picked up some at each. I got Lets Go France Lets Go Italy Lonely Planet Germany Rick Steves England The question I'm posing now is, do I take all 4 guide books? They do take up a good amount of room and they are pretty big. I'm sure it's worth it in the end. First rule of travel: Only take what you need. Take notes on each city/place. E-mail the notes to yourself. Print them out and put them in a marked folder. You can also photocopy the necessary pages. Unless you're extensively touring each one of these countries, there's no reason to bring the books in their entirety.
