Sorry.. and one more question. Is it a good idea to make a reservation for the TGV train on Raileurope, or just wing it when we get there? I have France/Spain Saverpasses with 5 days of travel, but believe that there is an extra charge/reservation required for the TGV trains?

I wouldn't plan a long-distance journey on the day of arrival, nor on the day of departure...
Reservation is mandatory on TGV. Unless it's peak time, seats are usually available on the day of travel.

I would highly recommend San Sebastian any day of the week. I have covered almost every inch of ground in Spain and San Sebastian is one of my favorite spots. It will be slower than on the weekends, but slow in Spain is different than in other countries.
St-Jean de Luz, on the other hand, is always a sleepy town. In fact, that is part of it's charm. But there's no need to choose: From San Sebastian you can take a day or half-day trip to St-Jean de Luz. It's only about 30 minutes by bus (a beautiful trip along the coast).
Happy Travels, Ray

Hi Ray,
TY again for your help and info! After thinking about this yesterday and looking at train schedules and travel distances, I am now thinking of eliminating San Sebastian as going there would add another night train and one long day journey to my trip. This is what I have now come up with: (There is a night train from Nice to Barcelona.. 11 hours)
Arrive Paris on the 11th and jump on high speed train to Arles (3hrs.) I know that this will make for a very long day of travelling, but I don't want to check in and out of hotels in Paris twice, but we are flying overnight and will hopefully get some sleep, so I don't think it will be that bad.
2 nights Arles & catch train to Avignon (30 min.) 1/2 day in Avignon on the 13th, and catch train to Nice (3 hrs.) 3 nights, 3.5 days in Nice, with day trips to Monaco and Antibes Night train to Barcelona 3 nights, 4 days in Barcelona Night train to Paris 4 nights Paris, with day trip to Versailles & maybe Chartres Fly home
I would love to see San Seb, but am not sure it is worth all the extra travelling that would be involved. Anymore opinions on this?

Your itinerary looks good. I think you are giving yourself enough time in the places you have chosen to really enjoy and get to know the places. It's a shame San Sebastian doesn't fit into your plans, but there's always next time!
Enjoy! Ray
