It's a bit of a rip off. As WillTravel said, the vast majority of museums are free and I doubt you'd spend enough money to make the discounts worthwhile.

A 1 day offpeak zone 1 and 2 travelcard is only £4.90, so you'll save a fair bit by just getting that.
