As a francophone from New Brunswick Canada, I had absolutely no problem getting people to understand me in Paris. I'd heard about how snotty and unhelpful Parisians are, but I for one was pleasantly surprised during my two trips there. People were really friendly and I never felt as though they didn't want me there.
No offence to the Quebecois out there but your accent can be a little difficult to grasp sometimes, even for a little NB chicka such as myself!
