my friend and i (and maybe others) are planning on going for a month, may 21st- june 22nd, through western europe. we wanted to include 9 places, with an average of 3 days each, 4 days over weekends, but this seems to be too little time- is that true? an example of our planned itinerary is: geneva- 3 days budapest- 4 days venice- 3 days rome- 4 days aix- en- provence- 3 days barcelona- 4 days madrid- 3 days paris- 4 days
but we are considering cutting it back to 11 days in spain, italy and france respectivly... any advice??

i would suggest cutting budapest. its quite far from your other destinations and would take a lot of time just to get there (assuming your travelling by train). maybe save budapest for another trip? other than that rome, could do with an extra day. maybe use the remaining budapest days for florence?

a German friend's younger sister has spent Summers in Aix. she really liked it there.
if you take night trains and occasional flights, this could work. Night trains are options for Madrid - Barcelona, Barcelona - Paris, Rome - Venice and Venice - Budapest, for example.
another destination i very much enjoyed toward Budapest is Vienna.

GENEVA : 3 days in Geneva seems a bit much to me. I spent a total of 5 hrs in the city and I quickly got bored, but maybe it's just me, are you going there because that's the city you're flying in ?? There isn't much to do and see in Geneva, in my opinion anyways
BUDAPEST : I loved Budapest, if I'm not mistaking it's possible to fly from Geneva to Budapest with easyjet, you might want to have a look at that, might be faster and cheaper than a train there.
VENICE : Loved it there, but I was there over 10 years ago and it was already very very pricy.
ROME : Loved it there, 4 days seems to be enough to see most of the tourists attractions
PARIS : Well, I don't know what to tell you about Paris, the city is beautiful, but after 3 days there I had enough of the people so I cut my stay there short. The city really is beautiful though.

1. don't know Geneva. 2. I found Budapest to be terribly disorganized (but, i was there for EU accession, 2004). 3. Venice was expensive so i was only there 1 night which wan't enough time. 4. Rome is the most important city in the history of Western civilization & deserves more time (i spent 5 nights there yet still left much unseen). 5. never been to Aix, but my friend's sister likes it. 6. Barcelona is also a delight - 4 days is good there. 7. Madrid is nice, but Seville is better. 8. Paris , why put yourself through the aggravation? geneva- 3 days budapest- 4 days venice- 3 days rome- 4 days aix- en- provence- 3 days barcelona- 4 days madrid- 3 days paris- 4 days
