My experience with the Coffee in Italy was a bit different. If I ordered a "Cafe Americano", I was given what was basically an Espresso with an extra shot of hot water added. Most times I watched them make it, and didn't see any sign of Nescafe at all.
antoine, if you want to see the Museums in Florence (Uffizi and Accademia), be sure to get reservations (otherwise you might stand in line for quite a while). Depending on what time of year you will be travelling, it might be possible to book these for the day after you arrive. Check with your Hotel on arrival day, they will often help to book the reservations. During the busier times of the year, these can be heavily booked! When you enter the Museums, be prepared for an airport-style security arrangement, with the X-Ray Scanner, walking through the metal detector, opening bags, etc. In some cases the Museums won't allow any bottled liquids, so you might have to "trash" your water bottle if you normally carry one (can't recall whether this was the case in Florence?).
I strongly concur with Madame Trash Heap's suggestion regarding buying jewellry or whatever at the Ponte Vecchio. It's quite a tourist trap and the prices are commensurate! Beautiful location though.
If you need information on a good restaurant in Florence, I might have to send you the details in a PM. There's a "fine line" with regards to "no advertising" on the Boards, and I'm not sure if posting the name of a restaurant is considered "advertising"? I wonder if a Restaurant review section in addition to a Hostel review section would be a good idea on these Boards?
Good luck with your planning! Cheers!!!
