Hi all..
After weeks of planning, I've finally decided on my itinerary:
(in chronological order)
Berlin: 2 nights Amsterdam: 2 nights Stuttgart: 3 nights Paris: 4 nights Lyon: 2 nights Barcelona: 4 nights
I'll be staying with friends in Stuttgart and Lyon, so they can take me around.
As for the others, what sites are worth seeing? Is the number of days spent in each city enough (for a total budget of around 2500 USD)? I want to be able to see the major sites/museums etc during the day, but also see all the clubs etc (ala red light district) at night.
Also, how long is the train ride from berlin to amterdam? and stuttgart to paris (unless i can manage to find a plane for that one)
The currency in all these countries is the euro, right?

to get a list of sights worth seeing, a tour book is very helpful. but, Berlin, Amsterdam & Barcelona, the ones i'm most familiar with, have very good art museums. Amsterdam has several world class art museums. Berlin has some, so does Barcelona.
Stuttgart has an excellent Mercedes museum. but, i was a teen last time i visited Stuttgart. i don't remember it that well.
the train from Berlin to Amsterdam will take 6+ hours. 3 possible connections tonight use night trains. it's often more practical to sleep between cities.
also, Transavia offers Berlin to Amsterdam flights from €30 <almost €60 with tax> that takes just over 1¼ hours.
oh, Germany, Netherlands, France & Spain are all Euro states.

thanks dave for the transavia tip. that'll save me a lot of travel time. edit: I presume, you will take an Easyjet flight Geneva - Barcelona ... what do you mean?? geneva isn't on my itinerary. i was thinking of driving back up to paris from lyon and taking a plane from paris to barcelona (through ryanair). but if the geneva thing is more practical, please tell me!

If you want to take a plane in Paris, by RyanAir, you need to get to Beauvais, about 80 miles from Paris. So that wouldn't be my first choice. As you would also fly to Girona, and not Barcelona, therefor needing to make two extra transfers (Paris - Beauvais, and Girona - Barcelona). From Lyon to Geneva Airport is depending on the train you would take, a ride of 2.00 - 2.45 hrs. (check www.bahn.de for the timetables). Form here you can take an Easyjet flight to Barcelona, and this time really the airport in Barcelona (El Prat) and not Girona. Also check if you want to train Berlin - Stuttgart, or take a flight with Germanwings (40-60 euros, depending on time of the day)
