i heard from a friend that the easyeverything.com cafes have a usb port where people can connect their cameras or memory card readers to upload pictures. i'm thinking that the memory card reader is the best way to go because you don't have to install any software and the computers will recognize it as an external drive.

not necessarily true... that's what's so tricky about getting photos off cameras is that all cameras have different readers, types of memory cards and different types of connections. A lot of the readers that come with cameras actually do require their own software and you have to install it.
That's what sucks is that it's not a universal thing. I just bought a larger memory card for mine and did all the photos when I got home.
Another thing you can look for is a lot of places will get new cards in, say 64MB... and will sell off a bunch of their 8MB cards at a discount price. So you could grab a bunch without killing your wallet. Also you could always get your photos off and then maybe sell a few of the cards after on ebay or something if you don't need say 6 of them and would rather have some cash.

actually mine is just a generic compactflash card reader that i got from best buy. didn't need any software just connected the usb cable and uploaded right away. but u do make good points. i actually love taking lots and lots of pictures - so i am bringing 2 cards at 256 MB, 1 card at 128MB, a 32 MB, and an 8 MB.

on the road update: LOVE having the digital with me. So many times my friends have run out of film, but I´m still clicking away... battery charging has been no problem, and somehow my batteries have been staying charged very well - I recharge every 2 weeks or so, usually when I´m in hostel that i really like (and trust my surroundings). no problem on memory either. my camera is set to a 1078 x 768 Medium resolution w/ fine compression (for you canon users). My 128MB card currently has around 300 pics and is not quite half full. i did find a shop in paris that burned pics onto a CD for me. cost 10 euro. I´m guessing i could have found it cheaper, but at the time thought i was running short on memory (figured out how to check the available card memory just a few weeks ago, about 2 weeks after paris...) i´ve also seen this available in more than once citz since then easy internet doesn´t help for downloading cause my camera needs its own software... hope this helps those still planning! havin a blast and can´t believe i´m only 2 weeks from home... Nicole
