Dustoff, I know what you mean, it's just the health insurance I have in Québec, covers only operations, no minor details. To me, 200$ was good, knowing every little detail was covered if something were to happen. I think it depends on your way of thinking in normal life. I like having things planned for, so I guess that's my insurance type! ;D

Would you happen to know if this insurance that you posted above, pays on the spot? In other words, if I were to get sick or something happens that requires medical care in an emergency room, clinic, etc. would I have to pay for the treatment on the same day of service, then get reimbursed from the insurance company once I return to the states? The reason I ask is because I already have medical insurance here in the States (Aetna) and I called them and they said it is good overseas as well, and they said it would be foolish to pay for extra insurance, since my policy covers me overseas. The only thing she said that made me wonder is, depending on the country I'm in, they all have their own policies about accepting insurance, she said there are some that won't accept your insurance, or they may want payment up front, in that case, I would get reimbursed once I send them (Aetna) the bill. If this is the case, what good is having insurance...I mean I want something that will cover me without me having to go into my own pocket at the time of treatment. Please advice if you know anything about this or have used this insurance, if this insurance guarantees coverage on the spot without me paying first, then I would definitely get it, since the price is good...$110! thanks

Lynn, Kim will reply regarding the exact insurance policy offered here on this site...but I can say that I spent a goodly amount of time before my first long trip looking into this issue and didn't find ANY insurance that guarantees it will pay up front in every country. Some will pay up front in 'most' and some only do a reimburse, whether US based or stictly 'travel' policies. You should be able to find out though if the specific countries you will be visiting are up front covered. Read the fine print carefully for any policy you are considering.

I just read the entire policy for the insurance Kim posted above and it does sound legit. It says that most places will bill the insurance directly and I would just have to pay small incidentals, prescriptions, etc. I still haven't decided though if I want to purchase it, since I have medical insurance already that will cover me overseas. I'll think about it. thanks for the advice!

I can assure you the one here on Kim's site is 'legit'! You are in the same place it seems to me as I have always been.....why pay again for something I already have paid for? That said, the coverage for travel interruptions could be helpful if your flight is cancelled or luggage lost. While my homeowners would take care of that, it would surely take quite a bit longer I assume than with a travel policy. In the end I have 3 out of 4 trips decided against it....but everyone has to decide on their own 'backup' financial situation at home I think. Consider becoming a 'member'! And giving us a picture for the gallery so we can put a face to whom we are chatting! ;D

I will double check with the company we deal with and post back after I hear back. I'm pretty sure it would be no problem as the hostel reservations are through them as well and it's all done by email.
