I had the flu last weekend and stayed home Monday and Tuesday. I thought I was over it and went back Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. By the end of Friday, I was feeling sick again, and sure enough I had a fever and sore throat. Now I'm trying desperately to get over this by Monday, because I don't want to miss any more work!
Anyone else felled by the flu? I get so annoyed with it, because I would much rather be out there having a good time than just lazing around dozing. Why am I up now? I went to bed earlier than usual, my husband got up at about 5:30, and now I can't get back to sleep. Still have a sore throat and fever, though.
That said, it could be a lot worse and I'm grateful it isn't.
How is everyone else doing? Any home remedy tips?

All sympathy and warm soup wishes coming your way! You won't be over it anytime soon. ;D The flu...the actual, medical, real flu will knock you on your butt for minimum 2 weeks and will take another 2 to begin feeling anywhere near your old self. I had it in '95...and have never ever been so sick in my life. I felt like someone had beaten my entire body with a 2 x 4, was so tired going to the bathroom was a challenge, chills, fever, all I wanted to do was sleep and try to feel warm. I have faithfully had a flu shot every year since, I nag my friends and family to to the same. I never want to feel like that again!! People who don't/won't get a flu shot amaze me...but then, if one won't get that shot then I KNOW you've never had true influenza. If you had, you'd be fighting your way to the front of the line the day it was available. ;D
Feel better soon WT.....but accept that it is going to take a while and accept that those 'good days' will be followed by relapses for another few weeks.

From the CDC website/'flu bulletin' pages: What Flu and Colds Feel Like Colds usually begin slowly, two to three days after infection by the virus, and normally last only two to seven days. A bad cold can last up to two weeks, but this is unusual. You will first notice a scratchy, sore throat, followed by sneezing and a runny nose. You may get a mild cough several days later. Adults and older children usually don't have a fever, but if they do, it will be very mild. Infants and young children, however, sometimes run temperatures up to 102°F (39°C). If you have the flu, you will have a sudden headache and dry cough, and you might have a runny nose and a sore throat. Your muscles will ache, you will be extremely tired, and you can have a fever up to 104°F (40°C). Most people feel better in a couple of days, but the tiredness and cough can last for two weeks or longer. The flu is a respiratory (breathing) illness. You cannot have a "stomach flu." Symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting are uncommon with the flu, except in very young children. CDC is estimating +60,000 deaths in US this season from flu.....average year is 30,000. This is a wicked, evil flu making the rounds this year folks.....if you've not yet gotten yours, I urge you to go get that flu shot! ......stepping off my soap box now........ ging

Lots of people at my work are out sick with it as well - -yikes. I've turned into an obsessive handwasher and Purel applier! I really hate being sick, especially with the flu.
Feel better, WT! Take lots of baths and drink lots of gingerale! Get lots of sleep too. I always do the dumb thing and think I'm fine too early and go back to work - and it seems to last longer that way. You need a serious few days on the couch!

I'm thinking this might not be the actual flu, but tonsilitis or something. Anyway, I'll see the doctor tomorrow. Stay healthy everyone! Thanks for the good wishes.
(Wash your hands, get enough sleep, eat properly, wear a jacket outside -- everything I tell my kids!)

Too funny - I'm 29 and my mom still says those things to me! (Although it's usually my sister that gets the "wear a jacket" one, as I'm always freezing and have on multiple layers!)
Feel better! Let us know what the doctor has to say!

Whatever it is, sorry you are sick and hopes for feeling better soon. If it is tonsillitis....hooray! Some antibiotics can set that right lickety split. ;D And since you will be at the doctor's anyway:
get that flu shot!!

I got a prescription for antibiotics, because I have a secondary bacterial infection and don't want this to get worse. Still have fever and feel miserable. But - every time this has happened in the past, I've gotten better, so I'll just keep that in mind . My son claims he does not need to wear a jacket to school, despite the weather that feels very cold to me. He walks 3 km with his backpack very quickly, and claims he starts sweating if he wears a jacket and becomes very uncomfortable. So - I try not to even look when he goes out in the morning. So far he's healthy anyway.

Good to hear from you....sorry you are still feverish and 'miserable'. Indulge yourself, pamper yourself, loads of fluids, nice cup of hot tea, piled up on the couch with comfy blanket....take care of yourself and give yourself permission to feel bad and take it easy for a few days! Your body needs rest, listen to it when it is making you fall asleep mid-sentence! ;D Take that extra day or two now to really feel better.....it will pay off in the end.
sending *get well hugs* to WT

Hey WT! How ya feeling? No posts in a couple of days so thought I'd just check in on you. Hopefully those antibiotics have kicked in and you are on the mend.

Thanks for asking. I still have a fever, for more than five days in a row, but at least it's pretty low and maybe it will be gone by tomorrow. This is the first day where I'm starting to think I'll ever get over this. I'm starting to remember what normal feels like. I haven't been this sick for many years.
Squeamish alert!! Worst problem is having to hack up phlegm quite frequently.

First day with no fever! Only running off to hack up every hour or so. I didn't go to work because I still didn't feel like as much as even walking around the block and I was worried about alarming my coworkers with how ghastly I sound, but I'm sure I will be back Monday. Yay!
Best of luck to anyone who has gotten any bug this holiday season.
