The general rule in France is no tip. That's because it's already included in your bill.
Look for the words "Service Compris" That means it's there. That will be the general rule. If it's not it will say "Service Non Compris." I've never ever seen that happen though.

the crazy thing here is that wait staff don't even get mimimum wage: they are paid a token amount per hour, with the expectation that they'll get enough in tips to make up for the low wages. so, the good ones can earn plenty, but others are poor. - d I can understand it in America where people rely on tips, but in Australia our minimum wages are quite high so nobody bothers.
