Hey guys, i posted this here cause its just a bit of advice from you users, but anyway, if you think its better elsewhere, move it without a prob! I am leaving tomorrow to meet the fabulous people of Wombats who gave me free tickets and accomodation I will stay there for 4 days, then off to Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck until the 11th. I was wondering, any of you do tours in these cities? are they worth it? I tried to check out by searching but didnt find much! I havent seen the sound of music movie, should i not do the tour? Thanks for your help, its a little unplanned trip xoxo Jen

Hey Jen, It is so corny, so trite....and yet SOM tour remains one of my favorites. Even if you have not seen the movie, I'd still say take it. It gets you out of town and into the surrounding countryside and mountains and is beautiful. If it fits into your budget, my vote says it is worth your time. In vienna, if you've any interest, take the tour at the Statoper....just to see the interior of this gorgeous building is a treat. Stunning!

Hey Jen, SOM - it's so naff, yet so appropriate! The SOM tours are one of those things that you should do if you're a fan - cheesey but fun - and one of those things you should do if you've not seen the movie but want to see the scenery. You'll get swept up in the excitement anyway! The ice caves in the nearby glacier are worth a look and some of the tours to there also go to the castle in Werfen which makes it an all day tour. The salt mines (ok to see if you've been to the other places), Berchtesgaden village & Eagle's Nest (connected to Hitler during WWII) are all nearby as well, so take your pick if twirling on mountains and lonely goatherds don't interest you.
Innsbruck doesn't really need a "city tour" as such as you can easily walk through the old town and end up in the Hofburg (Imperial Palace of the Habsburgs), Hofkirche (main church, recently renovated, small but impressive) and then sit in the park for a bit.
Can't help with Linz as haven't made it there yet. Enjoy and keep us posted with your sights!

Jen, perhaps you should have spoken to the Zugchef about those lights! so, Berliner Dom was your favorite? in that city, i found the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedenchtniskirche to be more memorable. while in Wien, be sure to check out Hundertwasserhaus! wild architecture. Kudos allright! Although after a nighttrain with LIGHTS ON to Vienna, and walking around all day, im burned! But it did find my "i think" new favorite church! The Karlskirche, my other so far favorite was Berliner Dom!

Oh yeah, i know, the Gedäachtnis was great, but i didnt get inside. I really have to go back to Berlin one day anyways lol, i was there 7 days and didnt see it all It was cold, i had a lot of coffee stops lol The Zugchef can kiss my butt lol, they are useless, they woke me up.. actually THE guy woke me up three times! Could you please remember my face like on all other trains and rembmer that im the canadian girl you ask for her passport with her tickets for cripes sake? lol Hundertwasserhaus rocks, i was there last time and it was the only positive thing about Vienna lol, read my blog for more details about why, but im really liking it better now. I love the Kunsthauswien too! And i will get to Italy, but as said, i will do that on an entire 1 or 2 month thing, do it properly, so ive decided not to go this trip! And for the room : private double room, CLEANNNNNNN, brand spanking new, big window on the street but not too much noise, a closet, comfffy huge pillows and towels Ging and Will ahahha And private in the room bathroom, clean, soap and shampoo furnished. And now a bouquet of roses on my night table... What do you want more? hahah xoxo

not good to hear that you had these problems on the train. the only time i had problems was on a train manned by a Hungarian staff. that guy was petty! The Zugchef can kiss my butt lol, they are useless, they woke me up.. actually THE guy woke me up three times! Could you please remember my face like on all other trains and rembmer that im the canadian girl you ask for her passport with her tickets for cripes sake? lol glad to hear that you enjoyed Hundertwasserhaus. i thought it was pretty cool! oh, it's your blog is often hard to follow for the non-francophones. it's often in French only. too bad you don't have a few days to hit Northern Italy: Venice, Florence, Cinque Terra. the people are so friendly! Hundertwasserhaus rocks, i was there last time and it was the only positive thing about Vienna lol, read my blog for more details about why, but im really liking it better now. I love the Kunsthauswien too! And i will get to Italy, but as said, i will do that on an entire 1 or 2 month thing, do it properly, so ive decided not to go this trip!

Hum hum hum! There are like only 2 blogs entries that dont have english, you are being complicated lol You know how long it takes to make it bilingual? lol
Ill hit italy on an entirely other trip, just like Portugal and SPain, although i might shortly set foot in Spain, as my hostess in Dublin agreed to lend us her appartment in Pau, in the south of France (near Biarritz) and its close to the Spanish border, so we will be heading there for 10 days at the beginning of August!
