To provide a brief update, unfortunately I'm now back home. Any yes, I did enjoy a few Pints, not only Guinness but also Murphy's and Beamish (had to try the local brew when in Cork). In addition to that, we toured the Bushmill's distillery and yes, I had a few wee samples of the 12 year and 16 year single malt whiskey as well!
The tour was fantastic and I'm convinced more than ever that at least for Ireland, it was the right decision to take a tour rather than travel on my own. It would have been exceptionally difficult to have visited the number of locations we did in that time frame, and more importantly to have received the historical and cultural information that we got throughout the trip. The tour was extremely well organized, and our Guide and Coach Driver were both incredible (as were the local Guides that were arranged at various points throught the trip)!
I hope to post a "Just Back" report in the next few days, but at the moment I'm resolving a few minor difficulties in getting the photos transferred from my PHD. In addition, I came down with an annoying cold / flu just as I got back, so I'm not operating at "full speed" at the moment.
Many on the tour were asking where I plan on travelling next year. I haven't decided that yet, as I'll have to wait and see what changes happen with my employment situation in the next few months. A major "re-structuring" is in the works, so who knows I might be retired next year?
