A frend and I are going to Europe in May and want to attend a football match. We will probably try and see one in either Germany or Austria, but aren't sure how to find or get tickets. Most likely we would try and see one of Vienna's teams. The only option we don't want to do is buy from scalpers. Can I get some advice?

Normaly there will be away to buy tickets in advance by internet. It's a shame that Anthony isn't able to respond (he is traveling in Europe at this moment, and visiting a lot of Football games aswell. I am not sure about Vienna though - which hasn't got the best football by the way).
At least Austria Wien has a ticketing tool on the website, but it is best to mail them or to give them a call, as it could be not possible to sell tickets outside of Europe (At least in Holland, that is the case).
May can be tricky as most seasons end in May. The Austrian 'Bundesliga' ends at the 20th of May. And Germany end the season one day earlier on the 19th.

bescrap, if you're in Munich in May, you might get lucky with tickets as the new stadium (Allianz Arena) is a good place to experience a game, even if it is to see Bayern Munich . Tickets won't be cheap, but worth it, although they are only playing one game there in May from what I understand. There are plenty of other teams around the country that may fit your dates. I remember from another post you start in Frankfurt, yeah? Maybe look at the dates you'll be there and see what's on. Herrbert's point about the end of the season is a good one and may thwart your attempts to get to a game. Even if it's Salzburg (I know you prefer Vienna, but Salzburg are the better team), or Innsbruck (new boys on the block), it's still worth going to a match for the atmosphere and experience.

We've actually found fairly cheap (35e) tickets online for a match in Frankfurt on May 19th versus Berlin. I've heard they've got a new stadium, too so it should be a blast.

That's great news bescrap! The Waldstadion (or Commerzbank Arena) is the stadium you may have seen during the 2006 World Cup and is home to Eintracht Frankfurt. It's easy enough to get to on the train (S-Bahn). You'll enjoy the game, just make sure you're yelling for the same team as those around you!
