Has anyone picked up work here and there when in Europe? Is it easy, hard, what kind of work were you doing? I know that you can work at some hostels, but do you need a permit or something for that? Any info would be great ~michelle~

Ok, Canadian citizens are eligible for the Working Holidaymaker Visa in the UK. That would probably be your best bet, as it's legal. Other than that, work permits are pretty hard to come by.
Otherwise grey market (informal sector) jobs do exist, but they're often poorly paid, with dodgy hours. On top of that, you're often competing with a host of Eastern Europeans for the job. In other words, it's not recommended.
Finally, remember that having sufficient funds at your disposal is a condition of your visa. Whilst they often accept credit cards and similar (debit cards, Amex) as proof, you're still risking deportation if you don't have sufficient funds.

Ive been back packing through europe for 14 months now. I ran out of cash after like 5 months so i started doing bar work. Then a mate put me onto this guy Liam who hooked me up with a night labouring job. i could earn around £550 a week doing some labouring. Hard work and Long hours but it payed for 2 months extra travelling so i was stoked. Neone in a situation where they need some quick cash and will do the hard yards for it call Liam on 0113 275 2400

£550 a week for labouring sounds pretty good, I take it that's cash in hand? If so that's pretty damn good, it's around £2500 - 2750 a month before tax/NI... What hours were you working?

That's a Leeds phone number right? That seems like an awful lot of money for a labouring job. The minimum wage in the UK is £5.35 per hour and most unskilled jobs will not be paying much more than this. If we round this up to say £6 per hour you are talking about working 13hr shifts for 7days a week. Does this sound about right morningtonguy? (that's without mentioning tax or NI).

How easy is it to get a job at a hostel (If you don't have a visa and are just looking for temporary work)? I kinda have a dilemma and I need a place to stay for 2 weeks and earn a little bit of money

Are you in Italy right now? Whenever I've seen these hostel jobs advertised, it's always been in terms of doing a little work for room and board, and not in terms of getting cash. The last place I recall seeing such an ad was for a hostel in Utrecht, Holland although there are undoubtedly other places that need workers. Look here also for farmwork jobs that provide room and board: www.wwoof.orgNot to pry, but if you post a bit more about your problem, maybe someone can suggest a possible solution.

Ok, I was an au pair, but I didnt like the family so I left. I'm in Florence right now...I'm meeting up 2 other au pair girls this weekend and then I think I am going to Torino with one of them and staying at her place for a couple days before my flight home. So I'm only here for the next 2 weeks, my parents gave me money in my bank account so I can travel and have a place to stay but I want to try and save their money...

Try looking here (although I don't know what's on offer): www.wantedinrome.com/I'm sure your parents would prefer you to spend a little more money and be in a good situation than save money and be in a bad situation, so don't let the money issue lead to anything unsafe (sorry, can't help but put in maternal advice).
