I have been extremely lucky in the timing of my move to Prague. Since I have arrived, I have had friends from home here working on a big movie called Van Helsing that will be released in the summer of 2004. Because of this, I was able to arrive and sort of hit the ground running, as my friends had been here since the beginning of the year and knew the ins and outs of this city.
Now that has all changed.
It is about 7am Saturday morning here, and my last friend here, my buddy Wayne whom I have known since high school, just got into a car and left Prague for home. But it wasn't that simple...
It seems that flights for back home leave at 7:45am. So all these Hollywood jokers have this rite of passage ritual which entails going out all night on the last night then directly meeting up with the car that brings them to the airport. Wayne's car picked him up at 6:00 this morning.
So, for a last night, we had dinner at an amazing restaurant right on the banks of the Vltava looking out at the Charles Bridge and Old Town across the water. It was a beautiful sight that will never tire my eyes. Then the bars start...
We went to a few bars to slowly start the night, and at about 4:30am we went to a place called Le Clan. I thought the place was winding down when we got there since it was pretty slow, but that goes to show what I know. People started arriving at this place at 5:00am and the party was just starting.
At about 5:30, it was time for us to leave, but I will definitely be visiting Le Clan again some morning.
So I saw Wayne off and then, for the first time since I arrived, I was alone in Prague. As the sun was rising, I decided to walk to a metro stop. I didn't want to switch trains, so I walked further to a stop on my metro line.
My walk took me through all of Old Town and through Old Town Square. It was incredibly surreal. As I walked through the empty streets of this beautiful city, the dawn lending everything a magical glow that only she can provide, I wished I had my camera with me.
But some things are best left in the mind, and for the millionth time, I couldn't help but smile at the situation I find myself in.
Cheers,
Ray
