Alberta is very nice, esp. if you know where to go. I got plenty of family living in Edmonton and Calgary and the national parks are GORGEOUS! The only tip is: Never show up to Alberta in the winter unless you own a very warm parka! For any non-Canadians, Quebec City, Ottawa, Montreal and Thousand Islands are all wonderful places to visit and plus most of these cities that I list are well-linked to other major cities. But Hawaii...... I am seriously considering it over Scotland for 2008............. *sighs*

I would like to visit central and eastern Canada more than I have, but it gets discouraging when the absolutely cheapest airfare is about $600 (and usually more), and with good luck I can get that same price to Europe.
I am going to keep looking for cheap European airfares at convenient times, but if nothing pans out, we will probably visit NYC next year. With NYC, I can get fares as cheap as $300 from Seattle.

With NYC, I can get fares as cheap as $300 from Seattle. Southwest has tix from Seattle to San Antonio from $212.
the time/date i selected at random (Oct 2 - Oct 9) includes an hour stopover in Dallas on the Southbound leg. this is the *real* Dallas airport, DAL, not d`Fort Worth international airport - AKA DFW.
who knows? perhaps i could even go there & meet my 1st board member! ;D

I would love to visit Arizona and New Mexico though! Just for the bird-watching again, Southwest has flights from Albany or Buffalo to Phoenix from about $250/ round trip. but, plugging these US options goes against the spirit of this site. i'll shut up now. - d

There was a thread on RedFlagDeals Forums indicating that people living close to the US border on the east coast (i.e. Ontario/Quebec) - they can drive to Plattsburg, NY or Burlington, VT and take a cheap flight from there. That's my best bet. Buffalo is too far for me - better for people living in Toronto I suppose.
However, I don't own a car so..... LOL. But I hear that there'll be a train or bus route opening between Plattsburg and Montreal so that's a possibility.

Montreal is a beautiful place. ended my latest Canada trip in Montreal. but, for bus transport, there's always Greyhound! (i'm most familiar w/ Southwest Airlines & Greyhound buslines. the two biggest long distance personal transport companies based in Dallas)

Originally from Montreal but live in Ottawa. Montreal's a 1-1/2 hour drive from here and I still visit occasionally each year. Most flights I take are out of Trudeau airport in Montreal anyways.
eew @ Greyhound. Terribly overpriced here in Canada. Even VIA Rail is a rip-off too!

eew @ Greyhound. Terribly overpriced here in Canada. Even VIA Rail is a rip-off too! when i did a Central Canada trip a few years ago, flew to Buffalo & started my trip in Niagara Falls and walked from NY to ON, i used VIA rail for transport between cities, bought a pass before my trip. others i ran into a few times, they were traveling much the same route, said they took coaches between cities - much cheaper. i did those, plus Niagara Falls & Toronto. did the Thousand Islands thing out of Kingston, which i learned was 1st capitol of Province of Canada! - d

I pretty much avoid Toronto and Southwestern Ontario like the plague. Last time I went down to TO was a 4-hour drive in August from Ottawa to see Kelly Clarkson on Canadian Idol with my sisters and my mother for 2 nights. It took us 45 minutes to drive 1 block in downtown TO. Gah. Not to mention, the Leafs blow. *cough* Just making a statement before the start of the NHL season (go Sens and Habs!)

Not to mention, the Leafs blow. *cough* Just making a statement before the start of the NHL season (go Sens and Habs!) professional sports? grown men running (skating) around in an undignified manner? bah humbug! and a double bah humbug to the fools who pay millions for them to do it. when i was a child i had childish interests, like the Cowboys. now that i've grown, i see it for what it is. besides, the Cowboys are leaving Dallas for greener pastures in the western parts of the metroplex. not that i've really paid much attention since Jerry polluted the Cowboys with his presence. [can't really miss his news, though. the local media are all Cowboys this and Jerry that.] - d
