How long do you plan on staying in the French Riviera?
You can take the train to Monaco from Paris. Look for TGV trains with no transfers (6 hour trip).

Well, Id like to spend a few days in each city. Hmm let me so do some math, I want to go to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Monaco, Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Milan and Florence. Thats 9 cities in 4-6 weeks so thats 2-3 days, in each city including travel.

I just wanted to go to the french rivera. by all means, it's your trip, Rena, & you should go to the places you want. i have no wish to tell you how to plan it. my earlier post was just an attempt to advise you based of my own personal experiences. just because i had a rotten time at the French Rivera doesn't mean that you will, too. because Monaco is so close to Italy, just 12 - 15 km, i'd suggest not planning Spain between the two. but, that's just logistics.

You can visit Nice and Monaco in 2-3 days if you like. Monaco is pretty small - I'm not sure this tiny principality can keep you occupied for 2-3 days. I know people who have done both Nice and Monaco in a weekend. Possible order with Barcelona, assuming you travel mainly with trains: London -> Amsterdam (train via Brussels - take the Eurostar to Brussels and then the Thalys to Amsterdam) Amsterdam -> Paris - Thalys train Paris -> Barcelona - Elipsos night train or budget flight Barcelona -> Nice - train or plane Nice <-> Monaco - train Nice -> Milan Milan -> Venice Venice -> Florence Florence -> Rome

I will write that down for sure, it might change slightly but that seems ideal! I was also recommended to go to the islands of Italy. Has anyone gone? any other places in the way that might be of interest? Edit - I forgot to mention Gimmlewald, Switzerland - any advice where and how to fit THAT in?
