My Packing List

Hey everyone,
I'm spending 2 months in Europe, six weeks will be spent taking two classes in London but I plan on taking weekend trips to Scotland and Greece (Athens) and then I'll be traveling for two weeks in Belgium and Germany. I just wanted to run this by you and see what you think. I have to pack a little heavier initially because of school and I have to bring my laptop because of the program but I did sixteen days in Ireland with a laptop and no problems so I should be OK. Just let me know if I'm forgetting anything. Thanks.


Clothing:
1-2 pairs of Jeans
1-2 pairs of other pants
7 days worth of socks and underwear
5-7 T-shirts
4 dress shirts (for class, they take up very little room)
1 sweat shirt
1 long sleeved shirt
1 light, waterproof jacket
1 waterproof hat
2 sets PJs (2 shirts, 2 boxers, 1 pair lounge pants)
1 pair of sandals
1 pair tennis shows
1 pair flip flops (if I have room to use as shower shoes)
1-2 nicer outfits (possibly dresses or skirts just in case I have occasion to wear them but this will be based on having room too)

Toiletries
Small shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, toothpaste (I'll buy bigger containers when I get to London since I'll be staying in the same place for six weeks).
Face soap and moisturizer with SPF 15
Lip balm
Tweezers, small scissors, nail clippers
hair brush, tooth brush, small supply of basic medicines and first aid stuff (Advil, antihistamines, bandaids, neosporin, etc.)

Other
2 notebooks, pens, booklight
Camera, cord, extra batteries (1 set)
iPod, cord, headphones, case
Computer charger
1-2 paperback books (as room allows)
Passport, drivers license (copies of all documents)
Plug adapters
Airline tickets (and copies of all flight information)
cell phone and charger (my study abroad program requires this)
credit card, debit card, cash, and travelers checks

I also have a Gregory backpack with a detachable day back and an extra sling pack that I'll use as my carry on and for my trips back and forth to school. Please just let me know what you think. Thanks.

intreker05, your packing list looks good at first glance. Hopefully some of the ladies on the Boards will provide a few suggestions, as I look at Packing from a "male persepective". The only item that stands out is the Blue Jeans - some travellers prefer not to take these, as they're heavy (hot?) and not easily washed in a hotel room sink. If you have laundry facilities at hand, this shouldn't be a problem.

One other comment concerns the Chargers for your Laptop, Cell Phone, I-Pod and any other gadgets you're travelling with. Be sure that the Chargers are rated for operation on 220 V. electrical systems, and pack appropriate plug adapters.

Stick to one pair of jeans, preferentially your most comfortable/favourite pair. If you were staying longer, I'd say two but just use one pair for now. Add in a second pair of pants that isn't a denim.

Travellers' check = avoid this. They're becoming scarce these days and it's not worth losing the value of the checks when you cash them in, etc.

I'm trying to think of other stuff that you could consider.... such as a pillow sham (believe me, I'm paranoid about sleeping on foreign linen so it was nice to have something familiar to sleep on and not worry about drool stains, etc). You'll also need a wash cloth because they're not provided in Europe accommodations. A very small towel would also be useful because the towels are tiny and thin and you usually only get one to start with in hostels/hotels (two, if you're lucky!).

Alright, thanks for the advice. I do have laundry facilities for the first six weeks because I'm staying in a dormitory with washers and dryers available. The two weeks I'll be in Belgium and Germany I won't, but I can just wear my jeans until they're dirty and then pack them in the bottom of my bag and not wear them again. I wear jeans all the time in the US, even during summer months, so I'm used to them. Being warm isn't a problem for me. I'm also carrying $200 in travelers checks just in case I need emergency cash if something happens to a credit card, and they're replaceable if they get stolen, but I don't intend on needing to use them. Part of that is also simply to calm my parent's fears who are of the travelers' checks generation. I may very well bring along a pillow sham and a wash cloth. Thank you very much for those tips as I would not have thought of them on my own.
