In May I am going to spending 3 weeks backpacking through Italy, Switzerland, and France. I thought it would be fun to invest in a camcorder to bring some of the memories back home. I don't want to spend more than $150, and I have been looking into the flash memory camcorders. My question is would this be a good camcorder to bring on a trip like this? the fact that it ran on AA batteries wouldn't be a problem? Did anyone encounter problems with this type of Camcorder? Thanks in advance for all the help.

thephila, Unfortunately, I can't offer "first hand" comments on Camcorders, as I use only "still" digital Cameras.
My preference would not be a Camcorder that uses "AA" batteries, as the rechargeable Lithium-Ion are much better to travel with, and have a better "power to weight" ratio. With rechargeable Batteries, it's important to ensure that the Charger operates on 100-240V AC.
Cheers!
