Walkers (great crisp/potato chip company in the UK) are known for having bold/interesting/odd flavours outside the regular Salt & Vinegar (Gary Lineker!) or Ready Salted versions, and they've released some doozies this year: www.walkers.co.uk/flavours/default.aspx?ver=high#/flavours/ If Cajun Squirrel wins....yikes! Reckon it will come down to Onion Bhaji or Fish & Chips this year. Their official site is www.walkers.co.uk if you want to see more, vote or suggest a flavour. And a news article on it is www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/is-cajun-squirrel-the-new-cheese-and-onion-1242591.html Apart from a great marketing tool, the voting on a flavour to become the new crisp is great fun and can get brutal when you stake your name to a flavour and others in your office disagree - whiles away the time I guess! I quite like the Marmite ones (in moderation) but Cheese & Onion will always go well with a pint! Still can't do more than one pack of Prawn Cocktail crisps a year! Did try the Worcestershire ones a little while ago - not bad. Still haven't tried the Pickled Onion flavour yet, working up to it! crystal - anything to report on the new flavours?

I haven't actually tried any yet. There used to be fish and chips crisps when I was at school. Tasted nothing like fish or chips but very nice. I liked the turkey and stuffing ones at christmas very tasty.
The Squirrel ones follow on from the publicity around grey squirrels outcompeting our native red squirrels. They carry a disease which the greys happily live with but kills the reds. Lots of restauranters are now coming up with grey squirrel recipes as a novel way of highlighting the cause. I'm not suggesting Walkers have been out rounding them up though!
I'll do some more research on this and report back - purely in the interest of my overseas friends who need to know this kind of information ;-).

You're a good GFE Member, crystal- body (and tastebuds) on the line for the good of the site! ;D I knew about the grey squirrel issue from when I was last living in the UK, and hear that as a meat it's actually rather tasty...but as a crisp??!!! Looking forward to the report!
