I'm actually asking this for a friend as my card has a PIN so it doesn't matter.
My friend and her husband are leaving in June for a week in London. She's planning on using her Credit Card for most things. However, she has one of the older ones that don't have a pin/chip system. I suggested she might want to look into getting one and both her credit card companies told her that PIN numbers weren't required while in the UK or that there would always be an alternative way for her to sign for her purchases.
Is this the case? Or are the companies blowing smoke?

I still have to be asked to enter the PIN code for using the creditcard. (but I have to be honest and say that in 99% percent of the cases, I use the normal bankcard.)
I know that it will become common use the PIN for creditcards, and I know that someone reported earlier on these boards that it was asked. So to be on the safe site, I would take a new card, with a PIN code, with me. Probably she will not need to use the code, but it would be awkward if she runs into a situation were she needs to.
