I'm planing to go on a backpacking trip to Europe, hitting most of the central countries, and was wondering about the legality of carrying a pocket knife there. Right now I'm carrying a folding, locking Gerber with a 2 inch blade. Would that be alright there? Or should I leave it behind? Thanks! Motley Fool

Swiss Army Knives, pocket knives, etc are fine to carry whilst travelling, but I would lock it in your suitcase/packback when on trains, and of course don't even try to board a flight with it in your carry-on luggage. There are also some museums, etc that will not allow you to take it in your bag - specifically the Vatcian Museums/Sistine Chapel, the Louvre, come to mind.
