humm. I followed someone's suggestion here to do the multi-city option on www.raileurope.com to try and get an approximate cost of point to point tickets against a pass.. from Paris to Amsterdam to Berlin to Prague to Krakow to Budapest to Vienna to Ljubljana to Zagreb to Venice to Firenze to Rome.. I then made some adjustments to get the cheapest available tickets and it gave me the amount of U$623 on point to point tickets.... against U$1346 in passes.. I am not intending on buying these tickets now, since the most affordable ones are not changeable/refundable.. but I wanted to have a rough idea of what my costs will be in transportation alone.. I know I'll have to keep in mind that the cheapest tickets may not be available in a short notive try, but I guess that is the price I'll have to pay for freedom, eh? does that make sense? thanks!
