This is for the Olympics, where there will be thousands of distracted tourists. www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/01/27/bc-pickpockets-warning.htmlI haven't noticed these posters, but apparently they're on the Skytrain lines. I wonder, if the world's best pickpockets are coming to Vancouver, maybe Barcelona and Paris will be safer now? Nah, I expect there are enough to service the whole world . My friend is thinking of wearing a moneybelt. I'm not planning to do so in this case, but I will lock up everything securely in my shoulder bag.

Are you staying in the city, or did you plan a trip to escape the circus?

I am going to Mexico again a few days after it starts. I didn't want to waste the $100 voucher I got from Delta on the Spain trip when the entertainment system had to be rebooted . (I would never have asked for the voucher, but they offered them to everyone.) This time I am going to San Miguel de Allende for 2 nights, to Guanajuato and taking a course from Escuela Mexicana for 5 nights, and then Mexico City for 2 nights. In Guanajuato, I am getting a private room with private bathroom for $23/night, and the Spanish instruction is quite cheap too, and I know someone who recommended it.

WT,
Thanks for posting that! I suspect this is one aspect of the Olympics that many people haven't considered. Those who haven't travelled in Europe where this is more common probably don't even own a Money Belt.
herrbert,
Although it would have been great to visit with people from all over the world, thankfully I'm far removed from the area where the Olympics will be held so I won't have to tolerate any part of the "dog & pony show" that will be starting in a few days.
Cheers!

And that when almost everybody in Madrid was disappointed when they lost the bid for the 2016 summer Olympics to Rio. Have a nice trip.

I had a great time in Mexico, so I don't regret missing most of the Olympics. But people who remained did say it was really fun. No one I've talked to was pickpocketed, so perhaps everyone took care . So far as I could tell, the projected traffic horrors never really materialized.
