OK, I would appreciate any help with my trip to Europe. I will be 17 when I leave and will spend a month there next summer. In the attached photo, I made a line of where I want to start - end and was asking for some advice on where to go in that region. I would love to hit Spain, Italy, and Portugal for sure. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! Attachments:

bpack37,
First of all, welcome to the Boards!
I had a brief look at your proposed route, and it seems to miss a number of significant locations (Rome and Barcelona).
As I assume this is your first trip to Europe, I'd highly recommend pre-reading the Guidebook Europe Through The Back Door. That will provide you with a LOT of information not only on Itinerary planning, but also things like money, rail skills (very important!) and languages. Check some country-specific Guidebooks also for ideas on cities to visit, and sights to see in each city.
It would help if you could provide a bit of further information. For example, what prompted your desire to see Europe and what sights are you most interested in seeing? It would also help to know which general area you'll be flying from?
Hopefully the others will have some suggestions also.
Cheers!

I will be sure to read that! And my friends and I are wanting to do something out of the norm, and be ourselves in Europe. But I love Italian things and I study Spanish so those are important countries to see. Also, I might add that the line is not a particular route, more of a rough area of where I want to travel. But Rome would be great to see and maybe Siciliy. I am already really excited and thanks for the nice welcome!

bpack37,
You might consider leaving Sicily for a future visit. The "transportation logistics" are a bit more challenging, both for getting to the island as well as getting around once you're there. Especially for a one month trip it would probably be better to focus on parts of Europe where your transportation times will be less.
Cheers!

I'd like to visit Europe some time and avoid the major tourist draw. Rome is beautiful but it has so so many tourists, a little less in Barcelona but you still get that big city vibe. I say if you're to do something out of the norm, avoid them and visit cities that aren't even in guide books. I have a couple friends who spent a summer in Italy a few years ago. Instead of visiting Rome/Venice/Florence/etc they picked this completely random city they saw on a map and bought a train ticket to go there (the guy at the train station hadn't even heard of the city). Once there they camped on a farm the whole summer (with permission of course) and had an amazing time.

If you study Spanish you should go to Salamanca. It seems that the most pure Spanish is spoken there. Besides that it is a nice city to visit.
One thing that you should also remember is that Spain (esp. the Centre and the South) can be really hot in summer. If you have the possibility to come a bit early (May or June), you are likely to be better of.
