Hello! Ok, I know we are "european" oriented here, but i need help and I can't find anything anywhere so I'm taking a chance.
My 2 week vacation planned in Quebec flopped out, so now I have 2 weeks vacation with nothing and hardly any money. I was thinking costa rica cause I have someone that can have me over to stay, so it would reduce my cost.
Does anyone know where i can find really cheap flights? I'm available from May to August, anytime for 2 weeks!
Oh , please , help! I'm desperate, air canada says 900$, that's outrageous!
xoxo Jen

Jen...have no real expertise in this area, but would suggest you check into a two flight scenario....to Miami/Dallas/Houston/Atlanta and then onward on a regional airline from there....you should be able to beat your current price easily that way. WT? Any thoughts?

I really have no idea how to proceed! I know someone who got a flight leaving next week for 300! She bought it a month ago. The only thing is, I can't reach this person and so I don't know where she got it from.
May I ask why going to Miami/Dallas etc? Wouldn't it be more expensive from Montreal to there and then another flight?

my thinking is that flights into a 'magor' hub is normally less...and anywhere in CR is by no means a big hub....and the budget priced regional airlines to there will likely only fly from big southern hubs. Bear in mind I could well be wrong...just a thought...as in flights from NYC to London are the cheapest generally, flights from Miami will no doubt be cheaper to CR and flights to Miami as well.

Hopefully WT will see this....she seems much better informed on 'Air' type issues than me.....and might well have an entirely different strategy for you to try!

Yes, I sure hope so! I mean, it's hard asking people for travel quotes when you don't have a fixed date, from May to August is quite a vast period!
I really hope it will work out, but hey, I hadn't planned it, so the money is low, basically it will be debts, but isn't travelling always a well place debt?
So, WT, if you see this, come to my rescue, or anyone else for that matter, Airtransat, air canada, they all have so expensive prices! xoxo jen

YIKES! No, have to disagree with you there. Much as I love to travel, and do often, it's with money I already have. Call me old fashioned...only my house is a worthwhile 'debt'!

Much as I love to travel, and do often, it's with money I already have. Call me old fashioned...only my house is a worthwhile 'debt'! Dustoffmom, agree with you there! The thing about traveling on credit is that when you have to pay off your debt at credit card interest rates you end up paying as much for a budget trip as if you had paid upfront for an expensive trip in the first place. Or possibly even enough that you could have taken two budget trips instead of one. jennifer, are you traveling out of Montreal? I would check with TravelCuts or STA or FlightCenter, but it's quite possible $900 CAD will be about as low as you can get out of Canada. I checked Hotwire and you can get a ticket from NYC to San Jose, CR for $348 USD total for May 1/May 15, so there is some hope maybe if you can leave from the US. If you do end up staying closer to home, you can still do a fun budget trip with hostels and everything. There are lots of places in Canada that European and Japanese tourists are desperate to see and spend big bucks to do so.

Hehehe! Don't take me wrong, I won't go out and do a thousands of dollars trip without a penny! Actually, I have about 600$ budget I was going to use anyways on my Quebec trip. But i know that travelling elsewhere will be way more expensive cause it won't be by car.
That's all I meant! And for the credit cards, I'm lucky enough to have a great set of parents, they can lend me a couple of hundred bucks every once in a while as long as I keep giving it back. Then when it's paid off, I can borrow again, It's a way my parents have to help me travel, so, hope i don't sound like a spoiled brat and that I don't sound like a credit card addict!
I understand 900$ is still reasonable but...ouch! hehehe
I'll check with travelcuts, you never know! I guess maybe i'll try to find a last minute deal if ever I don't find anything till then! Who knows, I might end up staying home ! (NOOOOOOOOOO!!! heheh)
Thanks, well if anyone finds anything cheap, please let me know! xoxo jen

Glad to hear it. I'm sure your parents won't charge credit card rates.

Hello Jenn! Now don't get me wrong, I know nothign of Costa Rica and am travelling for the 1st time myslef. But, I was just home (I'm away at school) and as my parents watched the Spanish news, a lady form Lonely Planet, who is the author of their Costa Rica book, was interviwed. She mentioned a webiste called despegar.com which offers cheap flights ...(despegar, in english, is take-off). I haven't checked it, but you might want to try. Good Luck!
