Greets all, Anyone have any experience with this backpack? www.eaglecreek.com/10036.htmlI'd like one with a daypack, but my budget (re: parents x-mas gift) is around $100. Anyone have any ideas for other backpacks? Doug

I don't know how light a traveler you are, but that seems a bit small for me. Mind you, I also thought the Continenal Journey was tiny.

Doug,
How long is your trip going to be? The Continental Journey is the pack we recommended for most trips, but for an extended length one (how long are you going for?) you may need something bigger.
After packing a pack around for a week, we went through and got rid of everything that wasn't neccesary, you sure learn your priorities fast when having to carry it for long lengths of time!
Definately get one with a removeable day pack, it's a must. You will need that little pack for going out in the day - for your camera, water, guidebook etc.
Your best bet is to head to a store where you can try them on. You want to get the one tht is the most comfortable for you. I always get one with a good waistbelt as it takes the strain off your back. Make sure there isn't too much of a gap between your back and pack, it shouldn't be pulling away from you. Also see if the store clerk can put weight in it for you (they have these weights they can put it to show you what it feels like packed).
Remember, you will be doing laundry - probably 1 per week so take enough clothes for a week, with maybe 1 or 2 extra shirts. I always take extra underwear and socks in case you can't do it every week - it's light and doesn't take up much room.
You will need a bigger pack for winter months (if you are travelling in the winter) most likely as winter clothing takes up alot more room.

I'll be traveling during summer (as of right now, flying out of Florida on June 5th). I plan on 4-5 weeks. I've got 3 pairs of zipper pants/shorts, of which I'll be bringing three of the shorts and 2 pairs of leggings (so I can wander in shorts, but change them into pants to get into some of the attractions). Weight isn't much of a problem, I'm a pretty hefty guy, but I tend to pack light anyway (I can do 1 week in Chicago with a small suitcase, but that's not doing laundry there. Thanks for the quick replies!

Hey all, I found the Continental Journey at a place called Moosejaw.com for only $144. Anyone ever order from them before? That looks like the backpack I'd like, and for nearly $30 cheaper...YAY!

DOUG, I also use the Continental Journey Pack (2002 model, I think), and I've been really pleased with it so far. One thing I wanted to mention though, it has a "fixed" harness system which I believe is designed for a torso range of 15"-21'' (check with EC to confirm this). Make sure that it fits your torso range.
Hope you enjoy your new Pack, and happy travels!!!

I also have this pack, 2001 model/womens fit....it's been through a total of about 7 months hard use/travels and still looks virtually brand new. I am a huge fan of Eagle Creek bags in general and this model in particular. Hope you are as pleased with yours as Eagle and I are with ours respectively. Have a great trip!

Some of the regulars on this site recommended the CJ to me when I was looking for a pack a couple of months ago. I have only taken one trip with it, but I love it. I had to take two legs of my trip on a small regional jet (very small overheads) but I carried the pack on in two pieces (day pack separated) without a problem. I think it is just the right size to pack the essentials needed for a short or longer trip. I also bought the 2003 model from REI. I just looked tonight and it's selling for $109. I don't think you can beat that price. www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8001&catalogId=40000008001&productId=47803300&parent_category_rn=22000469I also took Eagle's advice and bought a separate shoulder strap for the main pack. It makes it easier to carry the packs separately when walking through airports. ...another satisified customer. ;D
