DANGER!!! DANGER!! Uh oh... I may be de-railed on my trip, and I haven't even left yet!!! Though I've got no 'REAL' itenerary, I'm starting in London for 5-6 days, (Mar 9- Mar 15)... Then moving up to Ireland for St. Patrick's day... I've got my hostels set up in London... BUT, I can't find anything available in Ireland... (Yes, I understand it's St. Patty's day...therefore, it's busy)... I'm looking for either Cork or Dublin... for the dates of 16th - 18th... I can't find a place online that has all 3 days available... I'll pony up extra money for it... but some of these places are asking $200 a night (hotels)... Is there another way to check for rooms?? Think they'll make an exception since my name is, in fact, Patrick?? Maybe?? Thanks!!

PatrickT, wow, what a start! When you return, I'd love to hear about the customs debacle, in case it's something that might relate to other travelers. And I'm glad all is well now.

Hey Paddy I can give you a little bit of advice on dublin, as i am frm cork (south of the country). I might be biast, as generally speaking the rest of the country hates dublin and everything to do with it. just a bit of banter really. However dublin is very expensive, especially for drink, in temple bar, the main drinking spot, expect to pay as much as €5.50 for a pint, in comparison with €3.80 for the rest of the country. As far as the people go, most of the women will be nice enough but the men are generally arseholes! And you can tell them i said that!
Now just to inform you, we know we are a small country but we are fully aware of whats going on in the world, and irish people really hate when americans think that we're not clued in to whats going on. If your parents or grand parents are irish dont mention it unless you happen to be in the town where they are from, and you know a good bit about their history, we find that a bit annoying when you get " my dads John Murphy form Kenmare do you know him?", may sound stupid but it happens.
Other than that be yourself get pist with the rest of the country, and eat as much irish stew as possible. Or skip the stew and just use the guinness as food and drink.
Enjoy, Happy paddy's day Ronan

Patrick,
Did you end up finding a hostel... what is going on with Ireland?
Would you like to check out some sites on Tuesday during the day? I'll be in zone 2, but can take the tube into downtown if that's where you are? You have my email already... let me know. I will be checking it up until Sunday - then I leave and I'm not sure when I will get around to checking it again.
Hope the next few days are great - keep us all posted.

Auntiejo, I gather you're now travelling (you were leaving on the 12th)? Did you manage to find a Camera before you left? I've been wondering......
Hope you have a fantastic trip!!!

Oh Eagle... how horrible of me. I keep meaning to post you that I did end up buying the S450 and so far I absolutely LOVE it... but I haven't really done too much with it yet. Thank you so much for all of your advice - it was awesome!! Having a list of all the things you said I needed (suggested I mean) made me feel quite "organized" when I went and bought everything. Plus, because I knew what I needed, it was quite easy to let them know that I expected a discount and got 15% off my case and extra battery and then 5% off the extra SM card. I was quite impressed with myself actually!! ;D And yes, I leave in two days... I am terribly excited! I have a stress headache today, which stinks, so I am going to take a nap and then start doing laundry and packing some more. (Well, more taking stuff OUT of my suitcase - I have put all my "skinny" clothes in to see what fit and now I have to start pulling out - I am a bit backward!) I am taking a suitcase to London with my back pack IN IT, because I am able to leave the suitcase with extra stuff while I travel with a friend! I will post again before I leave... probably a "Panic" post, but that's ok. Take care, jo

Jo, glad to hear you found a Camera. Be sure to read the Manual so you're "up to speed" on the operation. The Manuals are usually quite compact, so might be an idea to pack it along? I imagine the Charger is similar to most of the other Canon Chargers, but verify that it's a "world charger" and don't forget the Plug Adapters.
Have fun and we'll look forward to seeing some pictures when you get back!!!

Dublin is fantastic... Cold, and mostly cloudy, but today we had SUN!!! Went to Trinity College and checked out the Book of Kells and the 'Long Room.' It's amsolutely amazing!! I've heard lots of traditional Irish music... even bought a CD... Ronan... The pints of Guiness are running around 4.50-4.90 per pint... But honestly, it's not too much more pricey that what I've seen elsewhere in the country.. I'm having a good time here... I'm not sure where I'm going next.... either Belfast, or somewhere in Scotland... Have fun!!!
