I think we're planning on hitting the beach for only 1 day in our trip (at some point when we're in Nice). we were wondering what to do with our valuables while beaching and swimming... for one day is it worth investing in a waterproof bag/container? i've seen a bunch at MEC but they're all around 20$... seems a lot for one beach day. any thoughts? alternatively we can take turns swimming...

For one day, I wouldn't bother. I would just take turns going in the water. The beaches in Nice aren't nice and sandy though, just to warn you. They are sort of like little rocks, rather than sand and most of the beach space right in Nice is taken up with rows and rows of chairs that you can rent.
Maybe when you are there it might be a good idea to ask a local if they can suggest a good beach that you can get to on the train. We did see beaches on the way to Monaco/Monte Carlo, those might be better.

My friend and I just took turns swimming when we were in the beach in sicily. Then again we were in a private beach that we managed to sneak into so theft was less of a concern
