Hey all, Ok, can anyone guess where I'm going now? ;D Anyway, because of the hurricanes, I won't be moving this summer, which means I won't be backpacking this summer. However... I MUST GO SOMEWHERE OR I'LL GO CRAZY! *ahem* The good news, since I'm not moving, it looks like I'm going to chaperone a trip to Japan (9 days, I don't pay a thing? I'm sooooooo there), so a two week vacation won't be needed. Since I was going to backpack mainland Europe this summer, and leave London for another trip entirely, I'll switch it and go to London for Spring Break this year, and (hopefully) Europe next summer. My current plan is going to London from March 5-12 (leaving from SoFla, I'll actually get there on the 6 and leave the 12th). Currently, I'm looking to stay in a hotel the entire time (since I won't be moving around much). Two hotels I'm looking at (good ol' Expedia) are the Edward Hotel and the Stuart Hotel, both located close to Underground stations and Hyde Park. I know nothing of London. Is that a good area? I can wander at night and be safe (I'm a big guy, so I doubt I'd have many problems). Is it cold there in March? Thanks for any help guys!

It looks to me like the Edward Hotel is in Paddington and the Stuart Hotel is in South Kensington (on Cromwell Road). Are those the ones you are looking at? I stayed very near the Stuart Hotel on my last trip and I thought it was a great area. I'm sure Paddington is also fine, but in South Kensington you will be very near a good grocery store (Sainsbury), several tube lines (Gloucester Road), some relatively reasonably priced restaurants, an Internet cafe, and walking distance to at least a few attractions. It's very quick to get from that location to places in Westminster and Mayfair. I don't know anything about the hotels themselves, but that's my judgment of the area. As for being cold in London, almost certainly colder than Florida . Check www.weather.com for some historical averages.
