So thankfuly a new pope has been elected, I was fearing that would take awhile. What I'm wondering is just how much this whole pope thing is going to impact Rome in terms of business. I was wanting to visit some of the "religious touristy spots", but if they are going to be crawling with people praying I don't know how my luck is going to be. What do you all think?

Rome is always crowded with religiously oriented people. It's true this summer might be a little worse, because people will want to see the new pope too - so I read anyway. I think it's hard to predict - probably some people will decide to stay away if they aren't particularly interested in the new pope also.
I would personally be a little reluctant to visit Rome during hot summer weather, because the crowding would "feel" worse than when it is cooler. I've also read the pollution is worse. But it's such a fabulous place, it would be hard to resist at any time of year.
