Hey i was wondering if anyone had tried those airtight packing bags that compress you clothes. I bought a box of them at costco and i was wondering if they were worth taking along this summer.

Are those the kind you use a vacumn to compress? I saw those at my local Costco.
If so, I wouldn't bother as you most likely wouldn't have access to a vacumn to re-compress them. Plus, once everything wasn't compressed, you wouldn't be able to fit it all in your pack again!

I think that ease27 meant those compression bags that you seal then roll the air out. They're like the vacuum bags, but without vacuuming. I believe Samsonite and Eagle Creek make them (along with other brands). I'm curious too as to whether someone has bought and used them. It seems like a pretty good idea in theory.

The best compression bags you can buy (cheap and plentiful) are Zip-lock bags. They are available in all sizes and work the same as the more expensive "made for travel" compression sacks.

My mom bought me a set of those bags that you just seal and roll the air out of. I haven't used them yet (not leaving till June) but in theory I was planning to use it for the super-bulky thing like my jacket that I was hoping not to need often but was told to pack (since we were planning to spend some time in the mountains). Other than that, I thought maybe it would be nice for if I got super-tight on space, might help free up some room.
I'll let you know when I get back!

In my experience, the Eagle Creek vacuum folders work well. However, I think they are only intended for "bulky" clothes such as sweaters, jackets, etc. If you're going in summer, you will likely be travelling with lighter clothes and probably won't need these? This will help you in "packing light". A couple of other options to consider (you may already know about these, but wanted to mention them anyway). For organizing packing, try the Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes or Pack-it Folders. The Folders seem to work pretty well at keeping clothes reasonably flat, thereby minimizing wrinkles. The Cubes are good for keeping specific items together (ie: socks, etc.) and they don't weigh much so don't add to the overall weight of the pack. Hope these comments will be of some help to you. Have a great time on your trip!!!
