Hi! I was wondering how it was to visit Chambord Castle near Blois. Is this a day trip option or not and if so, from Paris or from Normandy, which is best?

I've been kind of looking into this too. Blois seems to be only a couple of hours from Paris by train, so I think it could be done in a daytrip. It would take longer to get there from Normandy. I'm not sure of the connections to the castle from Blois station though.

Exactly, I was thinking since i want to do Paris, Chambord, Normandy and then on to Bordeaux, no matter where I want to get to, the train goes back to Paris to transfer anyways, so may as well base yourself there, but i'm not sure
anyone know?

I stayed in Tours, highly reccomended, for my travels to the chateaus. It's a much larger town, university, with a quite good selection of places to stay and eateries. I took a full day tour to visit chateaus which included Chamborg. The problem with trying to do them yourself as I found out is that they are all quite a distance from towns and each other, not readily accessible via public transport of any kind. Google Loire Valley tours to see what is available.

I see, that's probably a good idea! I'll check into it!
How far away is Tours from Paris. Like I said, I want to go to D-Day sites, then Bordeaux, before that Paris and Chambord especially, but other castles also. Since Paris is the base, I was wondering.
Does anyone suggest a particular order in cities so I don't have to backtrack!?

Since Paris was my last/fly home city I can't help much here. My trek through France was 'heading towards' Paris. I do recall though being told that Tours was growing by leaps and bounds with people working in Paris but wanting to move away to a smaller city....if memory serves I was told that on the fast trains it was in the 60-90 minute range. But I could well be wrong about that. As for route, all I can tell you is what I did which was Nice, Aix en Provance, Avignon, Toulouse, Tours, St. Malo, Bayeaux, Paris....in that order for a total of 24 days overall.
