Hi! I have decided where I'll go after my Free week in Vienna, wouhou!
We'll do Italy!
Can't wait! about 3 weeks in Italy!
Wouhou, any suggestions?
Ok so here is my question, I have a 2002 guidebook and it says that a railpass is not worth it in Italy because you can buy a kilometric pass good for 3000km or max 20 stops and this is good for 5 people on the ticket for about 107$...
Does this exist? If so, where can I find out about it?

Hey Jen, Great choice! That's where I would choose to go as well. As of 2003, the kilometric pass is no longer. Now what is offered is called the Trenitalia Pass Saver (with a minimum of 2 people travelling). It gives you 4 days in a 2 month period ($230 CND for second class) as well as lets you add up to 6 additional days for $25 CND a day. Could work out to be a good deal but price out the point to point tickets as well www.raileurope.com/canada/rail/passes/trenitalia_pass_saver.htmKim

Italy is a perfect choice, Jen! Wow.
Train travel is so cheap in Italy, relatively speaking, that I'm not sure a pass is worth it.
Figure out how many trips you are likely to take, and then go over to Trenitalia.com and price them. Now and then Trenitalia has some really special deals, but you have to be alert, and of course you can't buy them until much later (not that you want to start now).

Thanks! Man the kilometric pass was too good to be true!
I don't think this trenitalia pass would be worth it! We are going to go all around in 3 weeks, so basically way more than you can actually get worth of a 4 day pass! I'll check out the point to point as soon as we get planned on more details!
I know i'm not in the right section, but Cinque Terra (e?) is one of the places I can't wait to go, any suggestion on where to sleep? My boyfriend and I have so little money as this trip wasn't planned, so we are trying to stretch it out but we've said that cinque terre would be a no no to hostels, only a nice double bed although we don't want to pay too much!
