I wasn't sure if anyone here had seen the Andre Rieu concert that was taped in the Piazza della Reppublica in Cortona. It's been shown quite frequently lately on the PBS stations, both east & west coast. For those that like that type of music, it was an awesome concert! I watch it whenever I get the opportunity. The audience seemed to be a good mixture of both older and younger people, and they really seemed to enjoy the music (especially the older guy that had tears running down his face when Carmen Monarcha sang "O Mio Babbino Caro").
If anyone is interested, Andre Rieu will be making a tour of North America this year. The east coast tour will be in the spring, and the west coast in the fall & winter. He will be in Vancouver Dec. 10th (I've already got my ticket!), and then travels to Seattle and south from there.
Just thought I'd mention this, in case anyone was interested.
Cheers!!!

As am I! Thanks Eagle. And are you referring to the US PBS channel? I know you are in Canada and just making certain you don't have a PBS there as well.

GING, I've seen both the Andre Rieu Tuscany & Dublin concerts on the "eastern" PBS station in Detroit and the "western" PBS station in Seattle. Although we're in Canada (including myself in the Okanagan Valley), we're also served by the Seattle station (KCTS). Their marketing is aimed at both Vancouver and Seattle, and any "gifts" ordered are paid "at par" (what a deal!!!).
If you ever get a chance to watch the concert on your local station, I think you'll enjoy it! The audience sure seemed to have a good time. I'm adding Cortona to my Itinerary after seeing this.
Cheers!!!

I live in the same town as Andre Rieu. He hasn't done any concerts in his home-town for a few years though, but is planning one in July this year.
I have to say that he does make classical music more accessible to the public, but I also feel he has commercialised it too much. I don't really like his style. But that is my personal take on this.
My workplace is near his recording studio. It's really ugly, just a big black cube in the landscape.
*shudders*

CAT, it's interesting to hear that you live in the same town. Do you ever see Andre doing his shopping or whatever (how big of a town is it)?? It's a bit disappointing to hear that his studio doesn't have more "class". I wonder if the exterior colour is by choice, or whether that just happened to be the colour when he bought / leased the building?
I suppose he has had to become commercialized, as he has to pay the expenses for such a large ochestra (not too mention keeping his two aircraft flying). He's probably no different than many other performers as they're all in business to make as much money as they can.
I've only recently discovered Andre's music, but the concert in Tuscany really got my attention because I'm so interested in Italy. I'm wondering if my impressions will change after I've seen the "live" concert in Vancouver in December?
Cheers!

Hello Eagle or anyone who can help, This concert that you speak of was highly recommended to me. I found this site while trying to find the CD to purchase. Is a CD of the Concert in Tuscany available? Please advise. C

C, when I watched the concert for the first time, PBS indicated the CD wouldn't be available in stores until 2007. However, I just checked Amazon.com and both the CD and DVD are listed there (as well as those from the Dublin concert).
Since you don't have a profile, I wasn't sure where you're located, but you should have no trouble ordering this. I might order one myself, as I only have the DVD of the concert and wouldn't mind having the CD as well.
If you ever get a chance to see the concert on PBS, it's awesome!
Hope this helps. Cheers!!!

C, downloading it from I-Tunes -- why didn't I think of that? I just ordered the CD from Amazon.com, so hopefully it will be here in a few days. I will will probably load some of the tracks into my MP-3 Player so I have music to take with me.
Hope you enjoy it! Cheers!!!
