So a few months ago Google bought a company that made a mapping program called Keyhole. Today Google released Google World, which is basically the REALLY EXPENSIVE Keyhole mapping software, only Google released it for FREE! I've been ranting and raving over this software for years now, and now everyone can afford it! YAY! Some kick ass images I've found already... Many more I'm still looking for. This is a great program to visually see what's around an area. earth.google.com

Darn you Doug! Have spent waaayyy too much time of late placemarking old houses, favorite trip spots and locations, old schools, whatever! Talk about memory jogger...trying to remember how I drove from point A to my house, work, whatever and then trying to find it 'from above'. ;D This thing can be somewhat addictive.

Just had a look and UK coverage isn't brilliant, certainly nowhere near the resolution of the above images (apart from a couple of cities). Hopefully that'll change soon though.

Agree......much of the UK is not great...but neither is most of the US barring magor cities. London however is quite nice indeed. I have managed to map out virtually every DAMN thing I have seen there! But again, even London is no where near as close/good resolution as the pics Doug showed. But good enough to see what it is at least, well, sort of, if you've seen it and know what you are looking for/at.......lord gawd get me out of here!

Yeah, I'm looking for high resolution shots of where I used to live - you really can't make much out due to the density there.
Also, how do you jump to coordinates? I'm having to manually find places which is taking forever.

You can just type in the coords and it will take you to them. Example, just type 26N 80W and it'll take you right off the coast of my house ;D
