i wouldn't worry too much. what goes up must come down! the us dollar was up for a long time. now it's down some. but we're talking a few pennys. no big deal.
when it went from $1.17 to $0.88, that was a big deal! but a penny here, a penny there isn't gonna break the bank.
besides, when making the trip of a lifetime, one shouldn't worry too much about costs; within reason, of course.

Cat's no doubt happy....but I am not distressed. As mentioned previoiusly in this thread, 10 cents here, there, not a huge deal. Would I rather be leaving next month at 85 cents to the Euro instead of 1.15? Of course! Will that cause me to cancel my trip? Hardly. If 15 cents is a make or break thing, I can't afford to be going at all. Still.......what's up with the dollar these days/ My mortgage rate is phenominal....my currency exchange is less than stellar.

Well, I'm not planning a trip to the States at the moment, so it's not like I'm bouncing all though the house... Still, it's good to see the value of the Euro is rising steadily But, I agree with Ginger, it's not like my travel plans (if I had any) would depend on the value of the Euro. BTW: We're not all that happy with the Euro. One Euro used to be worth 2,21 guilders, but it seems like the prices have changed one on one. It has become damn expensive over here! Cat

was reading stuff in the german press (german is the only eurozone language i can read. well, they use english in ireland ) about complaints that convertions were made in stores 1 DM for 1 E. just as bad. (i think 1.95 was the DM rate) but, sorry Cat, it isn't so much a strong Euro as a weak Dollar. US$'s have fallen against most of the world's cash. the Bush folks have stopped the "strong dollar" policy. this should give american industry some help. [more arcane economic theory from david] - d

i think those stores in Seattle would be very pleased to get more Canadian shoppers. The downside, lumber and paper will probably become more expensive. Oh, and maple syrup would get quite dear! - d

The Canadian dollar is up to 74 cents! I was just a grade schooler the last time it was this high. As you're charged in USD, if the dollar was this high 3 months ago when I bought my Eurail pass, I would've saved $70!

in St. Petersburg, Bush just said a "strong dollar" is his policy. the markets might react to this.
any europeans here planning a US trip soon might think about buying dollars while they are cheap.
