No one changes coins of foreign currency... You can either save it for your next trip, or give it to friends who are going to Europe...
How come you've got 50$ worth of coins??? I never have more than 10$ worth of coins...

We don't even make the paper $2 anymore, that's old! We have the toonie!
Anyway, coming back from Bali (I thought this was great), they handed around these paper envelopes where you could put any foreign currency and it would go to Unicef. Most people dumped a handful of change in one, it would really add up.
Sort of unrelated but I thought that was a great idea.

We don't even make the paper $2 anymore, that's old! We have the toonie! It is old indid... I visited Canada in 1983... Is it no longer a legal tender? If I go to Canada I can't use it anymore? Well... all those French, Dutch, Spanish etc are obsolete as well since they now use the Euro... I also have another film box full of old Israeli coins... Liras and (old) Shekels, which are out of business since the early 80s... Their value is only emotional, I guess...

Yeah, you could still use it-you just never see them anymore.
We have the loonie (the one dollar coin) and the toonie (the two dollar coin). Much prettier! I should send you them for your collection.

How come you've got 50$ worth of coins??? I never have more than 10$ worth of coins... Well, I guess I'm not a fan of having such high amounts in coin form. I mean, $2 coins are just too heavy and turned into a pain in the pocket. They all got tossed in the bag, regardless of amount...and now it's useless until I return. I prefer bills by far. Those coins were a pain.

I prefer bills by far. Those coins were a pain. You would fit in well here, Civ. the Bush boys have decided to end the "golden" dollar coin program. most Americans just want bills. low value bills are a waste. us greenback ones wear out in just a few months! it wouldn't hurt for us to get our own "twonie," too. btw, it seems the $20 bill is about to get a new look. just 6 years since the last redesign, there are plans in the works to add color to the bills!

Our biggest coin is 10 Shekels (worth about 2$), while the smallest note is 20 Shekels... I have a habit of getting rid of coins as soon as possible... (the bills seem to go away quickly as well... LOL) so I rarely have more than one tenner in my wallet...

Nitsansh - I tried to do the PM thing, but I don't think I did it right... anywho, in response to your having shekels... my husband just did a paper for school (about religion, shekels, etc), and I was wondering (WAAAAY of topic) if you would be interested in selling a couple to me. Just so I could surprise him. Thanks so much, and I'm really sorry about posting off topic.

Stupid counterfitters forcing us to change our $$$! lol, but seriously, I like the greenbacks!
I still have a ton of Canadian coins left over from my trip YEARS ago. Of course at the time I was only 7 or 8 and I had a thing for getting "different" types of money, so while I could have spent or changed most of it, I just pocketed it to add it to my collection. Speaking of which, w/ the Canadian $ so high now, it might not be a bad time for me to change some of it back... hmmmm...

I guess our budget worked out perfectly because we had only a dollar or two left in currency for each country as we left it Actually, that's pretty well how it worked - in Denmark we had a little more than expected, but my son just used it to get a couple more books
